Just to say hello. Yesterday I ordered a new PiP. Delivery in a few weeks. After my test drive of the PiP my Avensis D-Cat D4D really felt like an old tractor with all the vibration and sounds from the engine. Really looking forward to this new car.
congrats, welcome to the club! i'm sure you'll love it like i do, what is your commute like and how often can you plug in? all the best!
Thanks! Mostly around town within the Ev-range. Will plug in whenever possible. A few longer trips once a week, around 150kilometers and occasionally 500-600km's I think Toyota's efficient hybrid technology will be the optimal choice here. The Ampera/Volt seams to have rather high consumption on longer trips using the gas engine for generating electricity. The PiP really shines here.
Sweden. We have the winter season here so i know the range will suffer and the gas consumption go up also for generating cabin heat.
JEP What is the price difference in Sweden between the PIP and the Ampera/Volt? Is there any government/local incentive to each of them?
If you will be taking a lot of short trips, you may want to look into "installing" an electric cabin heater to preheat the car so you can use EV mode without the engine running. They aren't available as an option, but a small ceramic disk type heater (the kind that doesn't glow red hot) should work; the hardest part is routing the cord into the car.
No, I'm not "nuts" and I also don't believe in using a four cylinder gasoline engine as a cabin heater for a three mile trip. It doesn't make sense to freeze on longer EV trips, but if you can be comfortable by preheating the cabin before leaving, and do it safely, why not? Lasko makes a 200 watt compact ceramic heater. Personally, I'd use a 750 watt ceramic disk heater if I used the PIP regularly in Winter. (I drive a Leaf.)
Thanks for all replies! Yes, my PiP will have a pre heater installed by Toyota on delivery. I also looked at the remote engine start but my local Toyota dealer hadn't heard of it earlier. They found it when I gave them the part number and PDF with install instructions but couldn't get a price so I decided to go without it. Maybe order it from priuschat later on if I need it. In any way I need to unplug the charger cable to get the remote starter to work. Also looking forward to test the LED headlights. Never tried LED's earlier.
I would love to drive a Leaf ! Show me one that gets a guaranteed 100 mile minimum range for what I paid for my PIP and I would get it!
i don't use the ice either, if i can make it on ev. my wife thinks i'm nuts! i have to admit, with temps around zero the last few days, i haven't bothered to go anywhere, it's just not appealing.
