The most recent 'post-and-run' complainer and our attempts to help suggests maybe a SHOUTER is primia facia evidence 'they are not worthy.' SHOUTING has been poor taste since the days of Usenet. It is the signature of sloth and poor judgement. Perhaps it makes more sense to become selectively illiterate when a SHOUTER shows up.

With all due respect, a few questions:

    1. What does the second option mean? Are you saying case does matter, but we should ignore it and treat as a shouter's post as serious query if we think the question warrants it, regardless of case? It seems like you are missing the option: "case is not important, but a query in any case should be assessed as best possible for poster's validity before time is spent crafting a response."

    2. Maybe my millennial is showing (though for the record, I, too, dislike all caps posts), but how can you draw a correlation between all caps and "sloth" and "poor judgement?" With that logic, it seems the same can be said for people who don't use caps at all or proper punctuation/grammar on the Internet.

    3. What is the point of this poll? Are we going to PriusChat unite and not answer people who may have legitimate questions if they post in all caps going forward? Come up with a boilerplate response robot that will automatically respond to all caps posts? "Sorry, your post does not meet the typographic standards of our community." Why don't you just choose to ignore all caps posts? If other community members want to risk wasting their time by responding, let them.

I think whether a poster is sincere in their query and open to receiving real help becomes evident in the course of communication and has little to do with what case they decide to type in.

Personally? I don't like being told that due to tradition or accepted internet protocol upper case represents "shouting". I personally type as I would type anything. But I don't read Caps Lock as being shouting. I don't waste my time being insulted or offended by someone deciding to type in all capitals. If they want to do it? Why should I care?

Some of the self imposed traditions we have applied to internet communication I think ridiculous. Cap Locks is not shouting...it takes vocal cords, and lungs to shout.

I think I live in a time that has absolutely the greatest tools of personal communication available. Unfortunately, those tools have led to abbreviated communication, texting, emoticons, and I believe a general overall deterioration of communication skills.

I think all cap locks communication often represents laziness on the behalf of the user. But I also feel that way about the use of "emoticons" and animated GIFS. We're losing the ability to write. To communicate our ideas using simple words, strung together in sentences and paragraphs.

Insincerity, or a poster not being "worthy" of response, will be revealed whether that person is typing in all capitals or not. I don't like an all cap locks post or title, but I'm not embracing it as evidence the person is anything more than just not very creative in representing their frustration. If there is more to it? That will be revealed.

Trust me, you see much more of this type of communication in Sports Forums than you do in Prius Chat.

In general, Prius Chat is Country Club civilized in it's discourse in comparison to a majority of fans discussing their local or favorite sports team.

My pet peve in that arena is someone going on and on about how they don't like their team "loosing". This is similar to those that would show up in Prius Chat and complain about a "break" problem. You just have to accept that in the public internet communication is not going to be perfect. And posts will be made with varying degrees of communication skills behind them, and sometimes with dubious agenda behind their appearance.

It is nice to know I'm not alone.

I hate emoticons with a passion [angry face].

China's particularly bad for it: I get serious work-related e-mails and SMSs from senior government people and heads of large companies that are peppered with smiley faces and sad faces. And I'm sorry, but "GDP growth looks set to fall by 0.3 percentage points [sad face]" is not the way to write a report when you're representing China's top statistical analysis body.

Maybe I'm just too old [wrinkly face].

What irked me was the suggestion that the reason the original poster did not return is 'paid AstroTurf' . . . a shill out to cause trouble.

I do not know but noticed the OP had demonstrated at best poor posting practice. Now if others want to extend a helping hand, no problem for me. But I may have something better to do on that and subsequent days.

Now I am a fan of ee commings and Richard Braughtigan. So speelling and ghrammer have never been one of my strengths. But SHOUTING about poor Prius mileage, well I can probably find something better to do.

Shouting indicates to me that the poster would rather be heard than have his problem solved. The poster can certainly overcome my bias, but I will, in fact, always start with the assumption that getting a solution is not the goal of his thread.

I'm ignoring this, because I can't stand all caps titles. ;)

Not only that, upon first perusal, I have noticed several errors in grammar. The poster is clearly not in possession of a mind worthy of deep cerebral engagement. :)

Edit: I hope it's obvious that I'm being completely facetious......

I'm suggesting that if someone posts all caps, they are under the mistaken impression that their message is special. THE OP MISTAKENLY BELIEVES EVERYONE MUST STOP WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND ADDRESS THE SHOUTED NOTE.

The Internet and posting is not something that just suddenly arrived this morning. Their sloth was failure to use the "Search" to look for an answer to their question. Their all caps reveals their poor judgement.

I was venting . . . and enjoyed the irony of a SHOUTED POLL TITLE. Obviously, those who have adopted the NO CAPS REPLY simply passed this poll.

You're always going to have shouters, people who use foul language to excess, and yes...even people who aren't bright enough to remove the Tapatalk ad from their posts.
I believe that the first two serve as a useful contrast, while the third should be hunted down vigorously and exterminated completely.
    :)

    No comment.

I eschew emoticons from more formal communications, but....forums?
I'm sorry, but they positively SCREAM for them :D

EDIT: Prius drivers aren't renowned for their agile humor. The above comment mentioning "exterminate" should not be taken as internet bullying, violence advocacy, or thoughtcrime.
