In the last 6 months I have bought 3 older 2001 prius. I have repaired them myself in my garage. Thanks to the help of this and other sites I have got them all working. One had a dead traction battery, another had a broken sensor battery terminal on the hv battery and the third had a blown fuse in the auxillary battery circuit so it would not charge. I have reconditioned all three traction batteries using multiple rc chargers and cleaning and siver plating the bus bars connecting the individual cells together. After reconditioning the batteries are performing well. I purchased the chinese techstream and use it monitor the performance of the car's batteries under different load conditions. I have an OB II analyzer that I use to reset the various codes that have come up. I am now building a dc high voltage battery charger usng a variac autotransformer and bridge rectifier , I will use this to bring a dead traction battery back to life without having to remove the battery from the car. I may be of some help to others although I have only limited experience with the electric car. In my career I worked with high voltage dc and ac, repaired ac and dc motors up to 4160 volts Ac ,600 v dc, installed and repaired transformers and generators and worked with programmable logic controllers for industrial systems as well as AC and DC Drives.
Very cool Roy, welcome to the site! Where do you live? Maybe you could be of assistance to members on the site with your electrical experience and know-how of the G1 Prius.
Thanks for the reply - this is the only forum I have ever joined so I am not quite sure how it works see you have been amember since 2005 so you must have a lot of experience with the prius. Each time I have a problem I search for solutions on how to do the repair on the internet, this site has many experts who may be of help in my next repair. I may be able to help someone with their problem if they have an electrial background, I taught electrical apprentices at a college in canada for a few years
there are a handful of 'experts' here, and a lot of member's like me, along for the ride! still, i try to be helpful when possible. you will be a welcome addition.
