I think even the latest WP7 release doesn't support the right Bluetooth protocols. So if that's the case it depends on Microsoft.
What protocol is needed to be supported? Currently they support a wide varity of protocols: (From their website) Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances. Windows Phone supports Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. With this enhanced version of Bluetooth, Windows Phone has a simplified pairing procedure which reduces user input and automates pairing with Bluetooth devices. Windows Phone supports the following Bluetooth user profiles: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP 1.3) Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP 1.0) Hands Free Profile (HFP 1.5) Headset Profile (HSP 1.1) Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP 1.0)
It is an OS limitation, not an Entune limitation. A dumbed-down Entune could be written, but why? I use a Lumia 900 Windows 7.5 OS phone and am able to use the phone hands-free, stream audio, use SMS text-to-voice and vice versa. IOW, it works for me. I don't really miss the Bing, etc. since the same functionality ends to reside on the phone handset.
Well, I would like to have the Entune traffic in the Navigation. About being the OS issue, I think it's a matter of Toyota asking MS for the proper profile.
Do you really thing Windows Phone has a future? I'm a Microsoft shareholder and even I ran screaming from "Windows Mobile" 10 years ago. Microsoft has missed the bus - permanently. I'm a TMC (Toyota) shareholder too. TMC already made a grievous error by having Research In Motion (Blackberry) supply Entune. I hope that TMC has learned a lesion and pays absolutely no attention to Windows Phone.
Of course I do. Read this news: Microsoft resets Windows Phone to reach lower cost markets| Technology| Reuters
If Toyota does not add support to WP8 that will be another pushing point for car buyers to get American cars using Sync. Prius is not longer the only hybrid in the market and even when the Ford Fusion still not at the mpg level I can tell you one thing, it's a lot more comfortable and has better interior design and materials than the Prius. The only thing that made me buy my second Prius in December was the MPG on it. But in 3 years I'll be checking back the Ford Fusion again. At least there all features are working no matter what phone. In my Prius Entune is half working and features as important to me as Traffic are unusable.
BTW, the missing profile is SSP and developers can implement workarounds that Introduction to Bluetooth support on Windows Phone 8 - Nokia Developer Wiki
Then you'll be thrilled to know that Ford just selected Blackberry QNX for its future Sync-like services.
You, too, will be thrilled to know that Ford just selected Blackberry QNX for its future Sync-like services.
It doesn't surprise me at all. Ford is becoming leader of the auto industry again. They are doing the right thing with quality while Toyota is becoming well known by its recalls and quality issues.
go with ford and U have to pay for XM to get traffic. ford my touch U need apps to work with smart device link, not sure if u can find WP apps working with that API. note QNX is just a OS, ppl still have to write good SW. OS issue is usually pretty small.
