The private central bank will print it as part of QE 4 or 5 or wherever we are now. Frankly I don't know why the Congress collects taxes anymore..... the bank will just create the money as needed. That extra $2500 would make it worthwhile to buy a Prius Plugin instead of the standard one. Ahhh sea glass (with light grey interior). :-D
Perhaps more significant is they are proposing to expand the technology base qualifying for rebate to other green cars (presumably H2_FCV, maybe nat gas?). That's probably a good idea.
This is also significant— The Treasury proposal would also allow the dealer to offer a point-of-sale rebate to buyers rather than requiring taxpayers to file for the tax credit on their income taxes. Presumably this would allow this "credit" to benefit those of us whose income is not high enough to take advantage of the tax credit. Makes sense to me. Why should just those with higher income get this perk. brkandd
Everyone is talking about PiP to get $10k incentive? Where did you guys read that? PiP cannot even get $7500 right now. Stop dreaming. Unless Toyota plays ball and puts more battery to get the full credit, then it will just be a pipe dream. You all will be buying Volt from Government Motors to get full credit. Further more, it would be even funnier if the money printing will cause all plugin' to cost more than $45k that qualifies for $10k incentives. Which means no one can get it.
Some of us in the Midwest just ended up buying our PiP from out of state. That worked out extremely well for me... 37,000 miles later... tomorrow is my 2-year anniversary. For the topic of tax-credits, don't count your eggs. It would be nice to get stronger backing from government & industry. But we've seen many efforts over the years get shot down.
Good point!! PiP gets $2500 Federal Credit + a few states have a little extra bonus. We've had few make that mistake thinking it was full credit.
No on the increase, yes on the POS. Target price is around $200/kWh, subsidy is currently over $400/kWh, price is below $600/kWh. The subsidy level isn't the problem. I think it's a play to get the POS subsidy, which would make the sale easier.
Not only would the POS subsidy make the sale easier, it would benefit more potential buyers. Those that wouldn't get the full tax credit amount.
This would make the Leaf pretty desirable IMO. (not necessarily for me, as I need to travel long distances a lot)
the subsidy / tax credit is based on battery capacity: not manufacturer. Toyota doesn't give a rip about the credit for plugins because they are putting most of their eggs in the hydrogen basket .... ergo Honda and Toyota are (sadly) lobbying hard core for huge hydrogen credits. .
