I've own the car for 25 months. I'm able to plugin at work also. Because of the cost of the charging unit, I unplug and take it with me. On an average day charger gets plugged in 4 days a day Two weeks ago just before my 25k service I notice that the ground lug was loose. I informed the service tech, and they noted it on service contract. When I picked up the car they informed me that it was normal. Today the lug fell out of the receptacle. Back to the dealer again to get it fixed. They are not sure how to handle the problem. Servive manager evev suggesred a trip to homedepot to fix. I'm always carefully to pull the plug out at the end, and that it doesn't hang by the unit. When examining the lug it is only attached to the receptical 32nd inch steel. Not what I expect from a $1200 dollar charger. Waiting to hear from dealer.
I do not think that it will be covered by the vehicle's standard warranty. Besides the solution for this problem, I would investigate in getting a second EVSE at an affordable price, $350 ish.
A 12-gauge extension cord is a good idea for a carry-along. I think the ground pin fell out because of a poor connection in the socket, causing it to get hot enough to melt the solder and the plastic in the plug. It's a good idea to check the temperature of the pins once you pull them out after passing current. If they feel too warm, it's a very good idea to have the receptacle replaced. The L1 charge cable that comes with the car also has a programmed life cycle and won't work after a certain number of charging cycles, and will have to be replaced.
