The 2014 Diesel Car of the Year as well as the Diesel Car Manufacturer of the Year were announced today at the New York Int'l Auto Show. Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Named 2014 Diesel Car of the Year Chevrolet Chosen as 2014 Diesel Car Manufacturer of the Year
Isn't the Cruze built in Korea? Now that diesel is cheaper then unleaded fuel, diesels sales should be picking up.
Cars for the US have been assembled at the Lordstown, Ohio plant since 2010. Fuel prices will keep diesel car sales low, but it is good that people wanting an efficient highway cruiser have more choices. There also isn't a hybrid version of work truck available. We might see a diesel in the Tundra before a hybrid system. The US will be switching to ultra low sulfur gasoline starting in 2017. The price difference may not remain as great when that happens.
Sorry, I read your post as sarcasm. Diesel is about 50cents more in Eastern Pennsylvania, and is usually higher than gas in most of the country. California gasoline prices seem to suffer from CARB policies. If so, their attempts at lowering emissions might backfire as diesel options expand. Cheaper fuel and exemption from emission inspections could become a bigger draw than a HOV sticker for some.
The price of diesel fuel around here is slowly dropping, so diesel car sales may pick up. I'm still quite happy with the PiP.
