I drove my car on a short roadtrip yesterday. We drove 75 miles to one direction, were there for 5 hours and then came back on the same 75 miles. Everything was fine. Now when I got home I went to sleep. Now by random chance, I got up 7 hours later and went to go check on my car. It was locked as I always leave it and the keys were NOT in the ignition. But there was a distinct electronic sound coming from the battery. Like a small motor running. It was odd, does anyone know what this is?
Your car is purring, and wants you to go for another ride! Just tell it a firm NO, STAY, or it will get worse and worse!
There are many noises a Prius makes while off, yours sounds like the gas tank integrity check to make sure there is not a leak.
Others on this forum have said the sounds are the Prius C communicating with the Mother Ship. I'm convinced that is the cause of all the sounds.
With our reg prius I've noticed sporadic hum/click/whir, for less than 10 seconds duration. Never a steady humming sound though, sounds fishy.
actually the Prii are NEVER off is correct. it may have been the evaporative emmisions canister emptying itself, or the brake fluid accumulator charging itself (like it does when you first open the driver's door in the morning). the car is constantly checking itself. very intelligent,,,
There are other threads about it. It's the battery cooling fan. Runs for 10 minutes and starts 5 hours from the time you last turned off the car.
