Replaced 12v battery-still no start

The only thing I have ever doe with this car is drive it and perform regular service. I have never had an issue with it.

 

Sage advice. It's easy to start to spin out of control when you are chasing down a problem. You should see the vintage VW forums. People always have you pulling the engine before you should be just checking ground wires.

My suspicions kept saying battery contacts too.

Ok, put the in year old newly recharged battery in. Still nothing, no Ready light, all dash lights on. Hooked up the OBD2 and got the code (I don't remember) for low voltage. Hmmm. Went back to the car and it started! Cleared the code and all the lights went out and I took it for a very short test drive of only a few hundred feet.

Ran the OBD2 again and got PA080 -Hybrid battery pack replacement code.

Drove it a little more and got the hybrid battery up to about 6 blue bars. I could hear the fan running in the back. Not sure if this is normal since I still had all the compartments and other stuff out from back there and I have never driven it that way before.

So now the question is that is this code for real or some type of remnant outlier from the 12v battery fiasco?

 

Well that's a bummer. Again I find it a strange coincidence that I get this code right after I was having the 12 blot battery issue and the car was fine before all of this. Would leaving it sitting have done anything to the hybrid battery to cause this?

I live in Vermont. The car is less than 10 years old and it has less than 150,000 miles on it. I should be good for a replacement at no charge, right? I called my Toyota dealer and they had not heard of the CARB extended warranty. ??? They had to look it up. Then they told me that PA080 meant there was dust or dirt in the hybrid battery fan. Is that there way of trying to get out of a battery replacement?

 

I didn't think so. Just wondering if the dealer is blowing smoke by telling me it's dust in the fan.

I'll make sure that it is clear that they are giving me a new battery before I take it in. I find it strange that service person claimed not to know anything about the extended warranty. Maybe they have not had to deal with this very often since it is Vermont. Or maybe they are charging people who don't know?

I just need to make an appointment. Apparently there are a couple of recalls that I missed too. I should have a like new car when all is said and done! Thanks.

 

I don't know what SOC is. I have not driven the car too much since yesterday. The battery display goes up at a normal rate, maybe a bit slow and goes down about the same rate. It doesn't seem to go over 6 blue bars, but it may be that I am just not driving it long enough to get there.

I live in Vermont which is a CARB state. The car is less than 10 years old with less than 150K on it. That qualifies me for a free battery replacement. So, bad news, but good news.
