I just got 2 transponder keys from e bay as my car only came with one working smart key (the other sets off the alarm as soon as a fresh battery is installed) I followed the instructions as found on youtube but they don't say how long it should take for the key to program itself.. they say to insert the master key 5 times leaving it in on the 5th open and close the drivers door 6 times keeping it closed on the 6th the security light will stay on (and it does) so I guess Im in program mode insert the new key and hold it in place and the light will start to flash (it does) hold in place until the security light stops flashing.(it never does) sat there for 10 mins.. I inserted the "new" key and the car beeps but will not turn on.. I tried this 3 times, am I doing something wrong on a 2004? thanks
Are you only using the keys for ignition use only? Used Keys on Ebay will not be able to program the SKS or door lock/unlock functions. The programming for the ignition part only takes about 1 minute once it enters the programming mode (closed drivers door 6 times in your post) 1. Insert old fob into slot and remove it 4 times in a row, and insert it a fifth time but leave it in there! 2. Open and close driver door 6 times. 3. Remove old fob from slot. Car is in fob programming mode at this point. Red anti-theft light remains on. 4. Insert new fob and leave in the slot for a full minute. Watch the blinking red anti-theft light on the dashboard. When it stops flashing and goes dark, your new fob is all set. 5. Remove the new fob and you're done.
this is just a new transponder key not a used fob this is the video I used for instructions.. looks like the same steps
There was 1 car I experienced a problem in doing the ignition part of the programming. Not sure why it wouldn't take the programming. I ended up just skipping it and went straight for the SKS function programming. Starting the car without having to put the key into the slot......
I just tried your steps and I got the same result, for some reason my red light never stops flashing ...does the car have to be in ACC? thanks for the info
25 bucks? those are definitely not new keys for that price. but even old used keys should work in the slot programming you are trying to do.
