The touchscreen on our 2nd gen Prius has stopped working in high-use areas. On touchscreens, this happens due to a failing digitizer.

Where can I find a touchscreen protector for a base PIP? We want to keep our new PIP screen functional for as long as possible.

I'm looking more for a plastic adhesive that sticks onto the screen, as opposed to a cover. The oils in our skin can also be a cause for malfunctioning touchscreens.

    For more information on digitizers:

Not necessarily is it a malfunction. It may be due to contaminants on the touch screen. A good cleaning with a mild soap and lots of water may be worth a try. I'd recommend removing the cowling first.

The Prius uses a resistive touchscreen, which depends on a conductive layer beneath the surface. Nothing you do to the surface will prevent problems underneath. And a screen "protector" may make the screen's top layer less flexible so the resistive layer will not sense touch as readily.
