Okay, it is just styling taste.
American brand cars don't seem to stick one way or the other in comparison to the Asian brands. Fords might be seen as more aggressive, but so to would Mazdas. Since the European brands are mostly luxury or near to it, I don't see many on the roads to compare to.

The Tundra would go into the that truck line up just fine.

You guys don't make cars. The Mondeo you refered to earlier was designed in Europe and based on the earlier version that's been sold here for ages.

Show me some nice American cars as I'd be interested - genuinely. I wouldn't know them as they don't get sold anywhere other than the US or maybe Saudi.

I was thinking about this last night, trying to work out who there was who Americans would be familiar with, and who is a complete bell-end.

And then, this morning, I was listening to the radio, and Bono was on the news.

I didn't make that last one up. All of these pictures - even the last one - were the result of a Google Image search for "bono bell end".

I think Bono totally sums up 'bell-end', though after seeing those pictures tosser seems more appropriate.

Though what words would describe this eejit?

He's ideal for looky likey though :)

Or is it the other way round? Anyhow, someone has beat me to it.

You just couldn't vote for him after that :) I bet you regret being in Oz with our politicians being so fabulous. Eeek, I'd better stop before this gets thrown into the dark forum.

Actually Bono is just tragic. He's like that dodgy uncle at a wedding. You just know he'd be all over some young woman 30 years his junior.

Sorry, it isn't my job to find nice American cars for you. I haven't bought an American-designed car myself in three decades, and haven't been looking either. (American-built, yes, but designed elsewhere.)

I was just objecting to those pictured American battering rams of death being labeled as 'cars'.

Cars transport people. Trucks transport goods, Buses transport lots of people and trains run on rails. Those pictures were of cars.

Cars meet federal passenger car safety regulations.

Those pictured vehicles are exempt, instead meeting weaker regulations for utility vehicles and light trucks. (Though the giant gap of two decades ago has narrowed significantly.) That is how they became battering rams of death.

Ah. If they're under 3,500 kg's here they're a car (keeping it simple). To be a commercial vehicle here there are seat number limits, no windows in the rear etc. I think your law had a hole in it which has been filled.

Actually, there's a patheticness to Ed Milliband that fits with with the term "bell-end" particularly well. A bell-end can be a pompous arse like Bono, or a loser who's out of his depth like Ed. His brother David, however, is definitely more of a tw@t than a bell-end, with his confidence and professionalism and sliminess and Blairishness. And the Milliband's brothers Glen and Steve just make music that I don't like much.

Anyway, on the Ed/bell-end front, I think this excellent headline and photo from the Independent should not be ignored.

Ed Miliband fails to look normal while eating bacon sandwich ahead of campaign tour - UK Politics - UK - The Independent
    [IMG]

And there's every chance he'll be the next Prime Minister. Gosh, that will make Britain look good on the international stage. John Major was boring and uncharismatic, but at least he was reasonably normal.

I can see the Wallace thing. But for me it's more Beaker from the Muppets.

    Hmmmm.....

    - Our opposition leader, Bill Shorten, is anonymous and pointless.
    - The leader of our third party, mining billionaire Clive Palmer, named his party, the Palmer United Party, after himself, and has party policies that focus on reducing the tax burden on mining billionaires. No, really. And people voted for him. And I'm trying to sort out a problem at the moment which involves him having (allegedly, ahem), stolen several hundred million dollars from someone. And this isn't the first time he's done it. Allegedly.
    - And our Prime Minister is threatening to have a fight - an actual fight, FFS - with Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Brisbane next month, and the Russian media is laughing at him.

Honestly, given the choice between that and and party leaders who, respectively, are a shiny-faced Bullingdon Club w----r, a bell-end who looks like a muppet or an Aardman animation, and someone who seems physically incapable of ever keeping a promise, I could probably live with the British option.

I had no idea there was a Fiesta van any more.

That must be ideal for people who need to deliver one pie, or one flower, or one book, or something.

But has the hole in the law been filled with glass or with metal? We need to know whether we're talking about a commercial law or a passenger law.

Actually, my understanding is that, according to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), in order to qualify as a commercial vehicle in the UK, a vehicle must meet the following criteria:

    • It MUST be a white Ford Transit with a dent in at least one side panel.
    • There MUST be a copy of The Sun tucked onto the dashboard under the windscreen (further taxation and roadworthiness exemptions may be applied if multiple copies of The Sun are stored and displayed in the vehicle in this way)
    • It MUST NOT be driven on the Motorway with a gap of more than six inches between it and the car in front.
      • If a commercial vehicle is spotted by police on a Motorway with a gap of more than two feet between it and the car in front, it will be reclassified as a passenger vehicle.
      • If a commercial vehicle is spotted by police on a Motorway with a gap of more than six inches but less than two feet between it and the car in front, it will be reclassified as a BMW.
    • It MUST be driven by a cockney or Essex geezer who can get you some cheap DVDs. If, during an inspection, a vehicle and/or its driver is found to be without a valid collection of counterfeit DVDs, the commercial vehicle licence will be rescinded, unless his mate can get you some down the pub later but don't tell anyone.
    • The cockney or Essex geezer driving the vehicle MUST confirm the status of his commercial vehicle by leaning out of the window and saying "Alright, darling" or similar to any female pedestrian under 40. Additional taxation and roadworthiness exemptions can be obtained if the driver uses lewd and/or offensive comments during this process.
    • It MUST ONLY be parked in areas reserved for commercial vehicles or BMWs. These are marked by double-yellow lines and/or "No Parking" signs or "Disabled parking" signs. An exception will be made if the vehicle is parked in a spot which is unmarked but which can clearly be demonstrated to obstruct the free flow of traffic.

I'm constantly amazed at how some entertainers imagine themselves qualified to set the world straight by counselling world leaders on how they should proceed. I suppose when an ego gets large enough...

Yes, we had a massive legal hole. It proved enormously profitable back in the 1990s, so there was considerable lobbying pressure to preserve it.

While that hole has since been significantly narrowed, I believe that it is not yet completely filled on this side of the pond.

What do you mean? Double yellows are reserved exclusively for ME, or were when I was taxiing. Actually pretty much anywhere is a parking bay for a taxi; just slap on your hazards and if anyone objects just give them a "do I give a ****" look. I never got ONE parking fine in 10 years of taxiing. (y)

    I recon Vlad would love that; naked, covered in oil, giving him a bear hug. lol. Your Prime Minister should watch out. We all know Vlad's in denial (nothing wrong with that but he does need to come out and be proud) lol;

Interesting how the price of oil seems to tumble, whenever Russia misbehaves. It's lost over $20 a barrel since the spring. When Russia invaded Georgia in 2008, the price of oil hit the low 40s as I recall.
