    Absent other economic issues, such misbehavior or international tension tends to drive oil prices up.

    The low prices of 2008 were driven more by the American housing bubble collapse and worldwide financial near-meltdown than by any Russian saber rattling.

    Likewise, this price drop seems more related to world economic trouble. Russia's adventurism is only a small contributor to that. This time, the US dollar is strengthening compared to other currencies facing greater difficulties. And because most oil contracts are priced in dollars, many of those other markets are not seeing as much price drop as we are seeing. And with the US producing much more oil now, it is more difficult for OPEC and Russia to control supply and prices.

    Remember that Russia is a major oil exporter, so these falling prices will pinch their budget.

    Hmmm.....

    There's not much of a crossover between modelling and politics in Britain, is there?

    I think you're right.

    Honestly, I really do hope they have a fight. Naked and covered in oil would be brilliant, but honestly, a punch-up in front of the cameras would be absolutely hilarious. Julie Bishop (our foreign minister, and by far the most sensible person in our cabinet) would be a sight to behold, with her head in her hands, muttering "Oh, for f---'s sake" while Tony and Vlad have it out. It would be probably the best moment in world politics ever. We could even have Barack Obama and Xi Jinping going "Leave it, leave it, it's not worth it." And eventually a glassing.

    At the APEC summits, the Presidents and Prime Ministers all have to wear local ethnic costumes - they all had to wear Balinese shirts in Bali, for example. The G20 summit in November is in Brisbane, Queensland. And nothing says "Queensland" like two crap, full-of-themselves f---wits having a fight. So I think Vlad and Tony should go for it.

    OMG! He's a Brony!

    I think I've found a way to solve the problems between Australia and Russia. When Vlad comes to Australia, he just needs to meet these guys.

    A Brony? My word the world just gets weirder.

    Talking of punches, I recon we should send Prescott over. He's good with a left hook;

    There's no messing with Prescott. He makes me look happy;

    I'd forgotten about that punch. It was exceedingly funny.

    That's where our American friends must be going wrong. They need politicians like Prezza/2 Jags.

    You any good with photoshop? Any chance of sticking a pic of Vlad onto this picture of Tony Abbot and coming up with a punchline?

    I wish I did have Photoshop skills. But I'm sorry to say I don't.

    But it would be nice for the picture on the right to have Dmitry Medvedev saying to Julie Bishop of Tony Abbott: "That's not a really hard national leader. This is a really hard national leader."

    As for why American politicians don't punch each other enough, I suspect it's because they have guns.

    Now if you want fighty politicians, Taiwan's your place.

    I think in the US Congress was like the Taiwan body more Americans would pay closer attention to politics.
