Didn't want to pay 50 bucks for a cargo net from ebay (postage costs 20 bucks) so I got a $10 one and printed a couple of custom hooks with my 3d printer to attatch clip rings I had lying around. attached with the bolts in the side of the boot where the retractable boot cover latches in.
good tip. Should I ask how you know ? The net is hooked onto the factory D rings lower down so it should pull it away from the latch, but I guess if I fill the net that could be a potential issue.
I'm pretty new to 3d printing, but I think these hooks will be strong enough for the limited amount of force that will be applied to them (shopping bags in the net? ). While I definitely wouldn't do any abseiling from anything 3d printed, it passed my "finger bend" test. I made the hook as thick as I could while still allowing for a socket wrench to put the bolt on. I suppose there is only about 1.5mm thickness of abs plastic around the ring in the direction that most of the force will be but it is about an 8mm long tunnel for the ring so I think it will be strong enough. If not I"ll just tweak the design. I'm in Australia, I got the net off ebay but I think they have similar walmart stores here with nets that flog off all the chinese stuff thats on ebay. I can't seem to find a picture of the net I got, as I got it a while ago. I chose it because of the low price. It happened to have 6 hooks so that I could fold it in half. I searched cargo net and cargo pouch I think. It made a good cargo net (attaching to the 4 factory d rings) as a flat net as well.
