Anyone know if small quantities of the dark gray "softex" material is available to do repairs or, for example, cover the center console lid?
Its available in 3 colors. Looks more like leather than Softex does. Center Armrest Console Cover for 2012-2014 Toyota Prius v - PriusChat Shop
"Softex" must be very a hush-hush proprietary rebrand of I don't know what. Doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
Ordered from the OEM, wasn't impressed with the material or "fit", returned it. Anyone know of a "real" SofTex source?
That's the OEM configuration. The console cover material is not SofTex and can't be cleaned. Gotta go.
I have the add on kit from SE distributors and the center is the grey like the armrests and seats. My comment was on the order of ...you could use anything in black and it would look right. I added Softex just because I couldn't see the arm rests in cloth holding up when I climbed in the car after swimming or golf with sunscreen on.
With exception of the center arm rest cover, our v Five is the dark gray SofTex. Sounds like the console part of the SE kit is what I am looking for. Any idea how to get hold of that kit?
My local dealer provided the upholstery shop with the kit. It looks so stock I suspect it is just a package that the distributor makes up of standard parts from Toyota. Sorry as it was built into my deal, I don't have the part number or price. It wasn't cheap.
Oh, I'm a fan of the rest of the surfaces on which it's installed, I just need to find a swatch of this unobtanium fabric in dark gray for the console cover.
Ahh ok. I was just wondering, that's all. You do bring up a good point. If one needs work on SofTex, is one required to return to Toyota or is there a 3rd party supplier. I suspect for now, it's Toyota since it's a branded synthetic material (just like MB's Artico man-made leather).
I would like to find either softex replacement seats or the material so I can have my seats upholersted. I agree with the above that it's most likely simply Toyotas branded name for the material.
I know Toyota Gulf States Region has complete interior and seat cover "kits" they sometimes install at Port (Houston) which are also sourced out to local installers. You might start with the "make ready" folks at your Dealership and work backwards.
I have discovered that Toyota patented the material. So can't buy anywhere by the manufacturer. But much to my delight junkyards sell seats for $150 range. The happy answer I was looking for.
