Hey everyone! New prius owner here. I purchased a new 2015 prius 2 last night and I'm really looking forward to this new adventure. Any tips for a first time prius owner?? (MPG tips etc.) I have a daily commute of about 100 miles per day and traded in a 2012 Kia optima. I put 83000 miles on it in 2 years. Did I make a good choice with a prius?
Welcome to PriusChat! Sounds like you made a smart choice with your new wheels, and you've come to the right place to learn everything you'll ever need to know about your Prius. All we need now is to see some pictures, and then we can all sit here and turn green with envy!
Congrats on the purchase. For MPG tips, the basics are: 1) Increase your tire pressure to what you're willing to sacrifice in terms of ride comfort. I run 40 front/38 rear. 2) Just drive. It's hard to get bad MPG on a Prius. 3) You could hypermile (plenty of online tips and video on the subject).
Congrats on your purchase. You made a wise decision. Learn about the car before you try to maximize the MPG. It will be much easier that way. Keep the maintenance up and it should last you 100K no sweat. One thing Toyota doesn't say that a lot here do. Change the transaxle fluid at 60K. Just drain and refill. NO FLUSH NEEDED. Best of luck to you, Ron (dorunron)
You're asking if you made a good choice choosing a Prius IN "Prius Chat". That's kind of like asking the crazy cat woman, if she likes cats. My advice is hang out here. You will learn a lot. My experience is The Prius is designed to return great gas mileage, if you just drive it and leave it all up to itself. However, there are hypermiling techniques that can improve even that baseline. At least at first? I'd just get use to the vehicle and just drive it. You can always slowly add any "tips" and techniques as you become more familiar with the vehicle. If you can get some spare time, read The Owners Manual....it's not really as daunting as it seems.
you made a great choice! these cars go for hundreds of thousands of miles without any major repairs. between that and the high mpg's, your investment will really pay off with the amount of driving you do. all the best!
Hello and Welcome... Yes, you made a great choice! Since wi bought my prius in Feb I have no regrets and love how I can now fill up with $23 @ ($2.89/gal). For MPG tips go to YouTube and you will find plenty of material on how to get good MPG's. Good luck and enjoy.
I really appreciate everyone's comments. Looking forward to learning more about my prius. I will post some pictures.
Thanks for the info. Do you change the fluid yourself or take it somewhere? If you do it yourself, how difficult is it? I'm not very car mechanic savy.
The dealer can do the job for you. Simple labor and four quarts of Toyota WS Fluid. Or you can DIY. You would need the correct sockets, two crush washers, 4 quarts of the Toyota WS Fluid, a funnel, and some long tubing. Cost at the dealer should be in the range of $125.oo more or less. Hope this helps ya. Ron
