On my Prius V, 2013, I get a warning sound if I power off with the headlights on. I dislike this alarm immensely. My 2010 prius did not alarm. I had become accustomed to exiting the car, in the dark with the headlights on as I corralled the kids, dog, and groceries into the house. Also, I feel safer when I can see and be seen in general. The folks at Toyota say I can't disable this feature. I'm now thinking of selling this car as I hate this defect. If I wanted the lights off I can either wait 30 seconds for them to automatically turn off, or double press the lock on the key Fob. Why even have the fancy head light features I just mentioned if Toyota throws in the annoying alarm making the car kinda trashy and stupid. I am also considering bolting down the door button. I give up the courtesy light on the door but then I could drive with the door open without the alarm. Help!!
I don't have the problem on my 2012 v 3. The headlight switch has three rotating positions, off, parking and headlights. I always leave it on headlights. When powering off there is no beep and it's configured to shutoff in 30 seconds.
I think you are being overly sensitive. Once outside the vehicle you can no longer hear the beep.......unless it just bothers you to KNOW that it is still going on inside. It is there because the 12 V battery has a rather low capacity and repeatedly using the 30 second timeout without driving much in between can run the battery down. If you do trade vehicles, be sure to test this feature in your new one. If it is equipped with automatic headlights, there should not be any alarms. If it does NOT have automatic lights, it might work pretty much like your present car does.
My 2010 Prius didn't have this warning buzzer and I never had a problem with the battery. Nor did I have a problem with my Mercedes that also had this feature. The problem is that with a moderately busy street, kids, dog, etc. the last distraction I need is a buzzer. So, I asked the dealer to disable it, like the backup buzzer. But, alas, Toyota has not allowed this as a modification. It's just software programming, right. I know I am sensitive to buzzes as they remind me of work. Hoping Toyota places this in the dealer modifiable category.
I'm now thinking of selling this car as I hate this defect...... Good Idea......before all the bad $$$ stuff starts happening....
On a later Toyota, I discovered that if I hit the remote key door lock button TWICE the lights and warning went off.
