does anybody know what the newest NAV software is all about? is it worth getting this updated? thanks! My
Here's a link to the latest versions. Ignore that it's on the 4runner site, or that it includes gen 7. We've got gen 6. Toyota 4Runner Factory Navigation Map Update Information
Worth is subjective. I expect to just keep updating my Garmin, get a new one if it breaks or use my cellphone, rather than spend $200 on a new DVD for the Prius. I already use both the Garmin and Prius because it's so much easier to find things on the Garmin and then transfer the address to the Prius for actual navigation and the integrated audio. I expect the Prius will get me close even if the address is not in the database and then the Garmin/cellphone can take me the rest of the way. Admittedly, I like the audio integration, but I don't generally like built-in navigation simply because they are usually so expensive to update.
It worked great and does anybody know what XM on the diagnostics is for it was saying EXCH so I hit reset and it went to OK, I have been having trouble with the Navigation system losing its direction.
I've been wanting to update mine as well but according to the dealership, my 2014 Prius Four is the USB nav type and their cost for the USB is something like $170 plus "labor"... That website linked above was really useful but it's only for DVD units and not USB ones. Anyone know of a way to get the USB? I heard a rumor that the USB is designed to wipe its own memory after install but I don't know if there's any truth to that.
This is probably Toyota's way of avoiding the pirated copies of the DVD-based map discs that circulated the web when they were using DVD mapping. This forces owners to go to the dealer and only dealers have access to the USB to update once and only once. Pro: Minimize piracy Con: Owner now gets charged labour and has to leave the car at the dealer to update rather than just walking in, buying the disc, and swapping the disc on his/her own.
Hmm? As far as I know, the DVD-based units require no labour hours. You just walk into the parts department and order one and pick it up when it arrives. No need to make an appointment.
