Is the 2.4 L engine in the now discontinued hybrid Lexus HS250h just a bored-out Gen III Prius 2.0 L engine? Are they interchangeable? Bill the Engineer
the Gen 3 has a 1.8 l engine Toyota ZR engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The HS250h had this engine Toyota AZ engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I always thought the Prius v would've been better with the 2.5L AZ engine, but apparently, the engineers at Toyota disagreed. SCH-I535
Possibly weight/packaging issue. I too think it could benefit from the larger engine - more torque, similar FE.
I wish my v had the Gen 3 final gear ratio to get some mileage back, but those same engineers thought a v that slow would not sell well. (It will be interesting to see if any actual v owners wanted a bigger engine)
The Prius engine is pretty much maintenance free compared to a normal gas motor. Is the HS motor the same? Are there no belts to change?
No, it is not a beltless engine. It's based on the Gen 1 TCH's hybrid system with the 2AZ-FXE 2.4 litre engine setup.
Thanks for the reply, so are there timing belts on these engines and if so, are they interference free?
I just looked up this engine on line and it seems to be using a roller chain, so it would appear it has no timing belt.
