Prius v wagon engine is the same as hatchback?

    Can someone tell me if the engine in the wagon (prius v) is the same as the hatchback? I have a 2012 Prius v and need a new engine.

    IIRC the (v) has an extra gear, but that is presumably in the transaxle.

    Its the same engine, but the under-hood layout of the rats nest of wiring and related mounting points is quite different. I'd consult a couple experts before leaping to the conclusion that one block can be swapped in for the other.

    How is it that a 2012 engine is not still under warranty?

    Either over 36k miles, or damage not covered by warranty.

    So the safe bet is to get an engine from v.

    Wouldn't it be covered under the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty? And the OP never stated mileage.

    ^^ You may be right that the engine is part of the power train warranty.
    I only meant to point out reasons why the time limit would not apply.
