It was announced at the DC auto show. Spark EV Heading to Maryland This Spring - CleanMPG Forums After rumors early on about wider Spark EV rollout didn't pan out, I am surprised by this. GM might simply need it to be offered in more states to qualify for CAFE credits or somesuch, but I hope it is to start paving the way with dealers for future BEVs. Maryland has a state credit for an EV. Maybe the Spark EV will appear in other states with incentives beyond the federal one.
I'm wondering if this isn't a test project to help dealers nationwide to eventually get used to selling the Bolt when it comes out. That said, nice to see that it's showing up in other places for sale.
Just dropped my Sonic off at the dealer for inspection. In the waiting room were pamphlets for the 2015 Spark EV. I'll try asking a sales critter about it when I pick up the car.
I had also posted about the DC auto show Spark announcement at the time. MD is good for EV due to low sales tax 6% and EV credit which basically pays the sales tax. Also DC is tax free for for any vehcile over 40 MPG city including hybrids.

I like that listing of incentives! Sounds like I am missing some PiP incentives such as South Carolina. NJ seems missing, I thought NJ had a big BEV incentive....did it expire? Sounds like MD has reduced the credits? used to be bigger....MD kept changing every year so it was hard to keep up. Also they missed DC which is easy to overlook. It's almost impossible to keep an up to date list on these incentives, so anything like this at least helps.
Don't know about NJ. Perhaps they just came up short of the top ten. They got the Pa ones wrong by my reading of the official site. There is a $1000 rebate for plugins with batteries for 10kWh with no apparent end date. Then there is a $2000 one for those with batteries bigger or equal too 10kWh. Which lasts "until the 500 rebate mark is reached or until June 30, 2015, whichever occurs first, rebate amounts offered will be reassessed and likely reduced if funds remain." Only 85 left, but I guess they'll get the $1000 amount as long as there is cash available.
Nice site by Tesla. So I think that says NJ continues with BEV sales tax exemption which is among the best state incentives. Seems to confirm MD is down to $1000 EV incentive now. By the way TB, last I knew at least for PiP, the PA incentive in considered taxable income, which makes it a little less valuable, but a whole lot better than nothing! EDIT: Actually MD is up to $3000, sales tax credit is $125 x Batt kwhr so for Spark 19 x 125 up to $2375 Titling - Excise Tax Credit for Plug-in Electric Vehicles - MD- You may be eligible for a one-time excise tax credit, up to $3000.00, when you purchase a qualifying plug-in electric vehicle. Effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017, an individual may be entitled to receive an excise tax credit on a qualifying plug-in electric vehicle regardless of whether they own or lease the vehicle. Business entities may also qualify for the tax credit on up to ten vehicles.
Heard today on the radio, Baltimore MD is the largest auto port for cars coming on ships in the USA. Who knew? Don't recall seeing a big lot full of new cars.
Well, it the Spark EV isn't coming to Pennsylvania. My dealer got the brochures by mistake. It will be available in Texas though.
In NJ the 7% sales tax exemption would require the car to cost $42857.14 to save $3000. The $1.50 tire tax is also waived on EVs. The sales tax exemption applies to new and used car sales. So, for inexpensive EVs Maryland's program saves the buyer more. If you're buying a Tesla you're saving more in NJ. If GM is going after CARB credits they're doing a poor job as they still aren't selling their EVs in NJ.
