So today I saw a Tesla being towed, and I can't recall ever seeing a prius being towed or broken down on the side of the road. Makes one wonder how Tesla will fair as they age.
Prius certainly has the reputation of being reliable. I hope mine lives up to that reputation, at least as long as I own it. Tesla? Well from my perspective that's a pretty expensive automobile, I don't think you own it to start with unless you can afford to have it fixed. And most owners of Tesla will probably buy something new before it get's too old. If you're buying a new automobile every 5 years or less your reliability is likely to be good, almost regardless of what you buy. ( Yes, there can be exceptions ).
I saw my own Prius on top of a flatbed going back to the dealer to find out why is was dead. Not a pretty sight. That was an expensive day.
Dig around here, and you are sure to find some people that had to have their Prius towed, or just had problems. The 12volt battery was a little weak with the SKS in the gen2. Also enough posts from people running out of gas with their Prius. Problems happen even with reliable cars. They even get foolish drivers time to time.
Running out of gas is not the cars fault, it's the owner error. As to 12 volt issues, all cars will need a new 12 volt in time.
I did blame the foolish driver. Which could be why you saw a Tesla being towed, and no bearing on the car's reliability. If not driver foolishness, it could have been damaged by road hazards, and not have burst into flames, taking out a bus full of nuns and orphans. Yes, 12volts need to be replaced in time. The SKS on the gen2 would drain a good battery when the car was parked for 'too long' though.
Out here, I recall seeing both, multiple times. But not at all out of line with their high popularity.
That's what I thought. Supposed to come to your home, do routine maintenance and everything. Sometimes, or most of the time, promises are not what they seem to be.
Roadside charging could be a question of safety. Shoulder space and the traffic may make towing home or the nearest supercharger more prudent.
Maybe others get out more than you ... for instance, I helped a gal not too long ago, off the side of the road in her Prius 2012 ... advanced package. She ran out of gas. That was my 2nd Pri I helped. Ive seen a model S on the side of the road too. Flat tire. Maybe that's what you saw. TPM goes off ... driver gets out to see what's up. But hey! Even if you don't get out much ... at least search the PC threads .... you'll see a prius being towed ... and like any other car being towed ... it's not much to look at; I suppose nay sayers would say the same thing ... "oh, must of been that the battery died" .
