This forum is a little complicated so I hope someone reads this who knows about it or can point me to another section..I did post it in the new be section too.. I just got a 2015 Prius 4 and during an ordinary turn onto an on-ramp, the engine died. The two yellow engine lights on the left of the panel turned on, but because I had to move along I just turned the car off then on, like a computer and it started right back up. I'm not sure if the electric engine died or not, everything was moving too fast. I took it in to the dealer today and he said he never heard of that happening and if the engine light hasn't come on since he didn't know about it. I wanted him to log in the info as I couldn't leave the car today, but he said he couldn't do that unless he took it in and had it checked, which I guess I'll do next week. Has anyone heard about this or experienced the same thing? Thoughts? (I read I think on this forum about a guy whose prius left the road and hit a curb and he couldn't control it. His assessment seemed thoughtful and not far-fetched so I'm concerned!) thanks for any info! ml
Was the steering still responsive & was there any other abnormal operation or functions happening when this occurred that you noticed?
The square one is the traction control/wheel slip light. If it comes on, the system will cut power to the spinning/slipping wheel and/or try to pulse the brake to get power to the working wheel. If the slip is bad enough, you get nothing to both wheels. I'm suspecting this might have been what happened, but I don't know what the road conditions were. Hitting "chatter bumps" can cause traction control to engage because the sensors see that the tire doesn't have good grip on the road.
