Should we wait to buy a used Gen 3 until after the 2016 model is released? On other words, do you expect the prices of used models will decrease when the new model is released? My wife will have a long commute next year so we're selling the 2009 Matrix and upgrading to a Gen 3 Prius. I'm looking at several 2010 to 2012 used models, likely a III / 3 because she strongly prefers the OEM integrated Bluetooth connectivity (is there a great aftermarket option to install on a II / 2?). We can wait until December/January when the Gen 5 will be released (presumably) but ... This weekend I'm test driving a 2012 package 3 with 48,000+ miles. It's listed by a dealership in the Bay Area (California) at $13,999 but I hope/expect I can get it for closer to $13,000 + ttl. I may jump on it ... please convince me to buy now or to wait?
So that's one vote for "wait" - right? Any experience with how much of a price drop I could/should expect? Or just more availability / choices?
but there will be a lot of peeps slipping out of their current prius for the '16, so there will be more on the market. supply, demand and all that rubbish. hard to predict. if you find a good deal now, hat wouldn't be a bad move either. i buy at full list, so don't listen to me.
Why deny yourself the fun of only buying gas every other week whether you need it or not? Buy what you want now and enjoy it for an extra half year than you would have otherwise! Bill the Engineer
Wait, you dont have to wait long 2016 model will be available sooner than 2016. They usually announce it in the fall and avail by Nov-Dec time frame. Im in the same boat waiting to strike a deal for Gen 3 once Gen 4 is officially announced.
I would not wait, especially if a good deal comes along in the meantime. I don't imagine that the 2016 Prius' sales will be too high with the price of gas so low.
2012 and up Prius come with bluetooth standard. You might have a better chance at $13k out the door with a model 2 than a 3. The difference is: 3 door sks vs driver door only, backup camera, and a really lousy Nav. I doubt a new model release will have much effect on a 3 year old car. Price drops don't usually trickle down that much. I'd buy if I got a good price now.
Jumpin on it! 2012 Three with 49,000 miles and full service records on clean carfax. Gray with perfect paint. $13,500 plus TTL = $14,892 OTD How'd I do?!?
