It comes to my attention that the new 2015 C headlamp are missing dedicated DRL. It looks like they canned it figuring it'll add too much cost to wire it up? I'm talking about that inner area (above the .ca) It's hollow inside. No lights at all to light up. I looked in the enginebay, and there's a cap that covers the opening to this location. Since all lights are running out of the projectors (DRL, low, hi) they just leave that empty. Now is there a way I can take advantage of this unused housing assembly?
Are there standard bulb mounts under the caps? If there are, it shouldn't be too hard to mount LED bulbs in there, if you can find out what type of bulb is supposed to go there.
Was looking at that the second day I got my 2015 C. Looks hard to get the two screws out of the cover that cover that portion so no light penetrates. FYI, The LED headlights are dimmed for DRL(Less amp draw), normal for On, and a little brighter with the lens un-Shuttered.
the screw cap have a rubber grommet on it, so it does take a little force to pop out. Unless they use the same base mold for some other cars that have separate hi-beam, really don't see the reason why they have this thing here. And then the obvious lense on the front. They were intending to use it, why else would they design that if they don't. But not sure why they decided not to go further. Maybe cost issue? I tried shinning my cellphone light through the hole, it does light up that area, but with my crappy cellphone led, not by much. I'm sure a more powerful led will really shine that place up. But then I will be needing relay to separate the DRL and regular low. I'm kinda want to avoid that. Yeah, I know the DRL beam is much lower in wattage, but I just don't like the projector on as DRL, but I do still want DRL.
Perhaps a shared assembly with international models? Last minute marketing / production decision with no time or concern of retooling?
That's what I'm thinking, it's a shame really. almost all the components are there, except wires, and bulb.
If wires and bulbs are all that's missing, it should be easy to wire up with a few parts (connectors, wires, etc).
