well- I've been tracking my mileage for the last 16 months ( 46.7 overall), have seen the awesome mpg's in summer months, not so good mpg's in winter months...overall love this car and knowing I'm driving rather efficiently and as an aware driver so not to hold up those behind me. My daughter now has her learner's permit and she'll be learning to drive my 2013 Prius II - there goes the MPG's... My wife and I both drive Prii , so either one will take a hit. Oh Well - guess it's all in good fun letting the kid learn to drive. I have a feeling my daughter will want to be driving my car ( spotless inside and out) vs my wife's car... not the case - though I did wash and vacuum my wife's car this past wkend. Think my daughter will take us for a drive tonite - I'll let you know how it goes.
It could be worse, you could have to be teaching your daughter how to drive a stick shift, in my family that did not go well....
HAHA - I'll bet... I just don't want to overwhelm her w/ the technology and fuel efficient manner of driving when she's probably a bit nervous and is trying to avoid an accident. she doesn't need to be paying attention to the multiple info outputs at this point.
oh sure... but to a brand new permit driver, i think introducing frugal driving for the sake of good mileage may be a bit premature. I'm just having fun w/ the concept and a new driver in the house..
Driver training is tough on mpg, just picturing the unspeakable. Parallel parking over'n over, for example. House hunting is another mph killer.
Yeah.... may car is garage kept; I'm already envisioning my daughter backing out ( not the easiest to do ) given that you come out an an angle to avoid the 2nd Prii while also avoiding the metal basketball pole and bushes... haha... oh the fun is only beginning. What's worse, the loss in MPG or my mental health? lol...
I remember when my youngest son was learning to drive. We'd gone around our cul-de-sac umpteen times, to get the feel of it. Then I proposed we get out and about, go 'round the block. He sat there for a mo', looking at the steering wheel, summoning his road mojo. It was a piece of cake, too, he aced it. So, we go around the block clockwise about 3 times, and then I thought: hey, let's go the other way 'round. Whole new challenge, lol.
we're gonna take a spin tonite; she'll do fine. she has driven at the in-laws out in the country, but she hasn't driven a Prius...
hehe - yeah.. I picked her up the other nite, she got in and said " it's soo cold in here..." Well...it was hot out and I didn't want to be hot! It was only set at 69.... lol... a Lady in the parking garage today where I work wait til I got out of my car to ask me if it was electric; she said she couldn't hear it and figured it was...stealth mode baby!
With my two children I expected both to have an accident in their first year of driving, so I was prepared when both did, thankfully both accidents were minor, and I did a pretty good job of playing angry lecturing father, and it worked or something did. 20+ years later my daughter has had one fender bender, my son has been lucky and no accidents. My point is that you must realize that probably sometime in the next year the Prius will be bent, and hopefully it will be only something minor, it won't be the end of the world. Hopefully just a good learning experience, good luck.
Ironic you say this... so... last nite my wife's has the dubious honor of taking our daughter for her first spin in a Prius. They're in the car in driveway backing out ( car when parked sits an an angle causing one to correct steering on way out..) she's backing up and in a very few short feet over corrects and under corrects on steering trying to position car straight to back out of driveway - thinking she's in the clear, hits the gas and heads straight for our stairs and iron railing I yell STOP!!!!!!! Thankfully she stopped the car at which point i walk back in the house - i can't watch... the car would have hit square in the back causing , I'm sure, rather significant damage. They took a spin around town and she did fine - wow - I'm about to get alot more grey hair ! Speaking of car getting bent.... my wife backed her car into our garage ( awhile ago) to have the back end in there to load some big stuff.... on the way in, she came in at an angle knocking down my work bench and damaging the back and side of her car pretty good !!! Wth! The car's been fixed but between the two of them it's gonna be a long haul...
