Not sure the point of this article but here it is.. Prius hyper milers non withstanding obviously. Guess motortrend hasn't seen the 600/700/800/etc.. Mile club threads here on PC. LOL. 15 Vehicles with a Longer Range than the Toyota Prius - Motor Trend
The whole article is pointless! Put a 32 g. tank in the Prius like the pickups and it would be KING by far. I am one of those who get 700+ miles with my PIP. During those 700 miles I probably make 3 pitstops on a continuous 700 mile trip! On 32 g. I could go non-stop about 2200 miles if my bladder could take it!
Prius is King of the gas station quick stop. Never had a big tank, nor cruising range as the priority. Priority for Prius is near zero emissions.
Seems like a incredibly stupid comparison. Sure, other vehicles may have equal or better range, but with The Prius it's about MPG used to create that range. Not a whole lot of ICE vehicles that can give you a range of 400+ miles on less than 10 gallons of gas.
Wow! Amazing? Is that a plug in? How do you like the Cmax? I'd buy a ford if it wasn't for the piss poor dealership experience each and every time I walk in one.
No, that was the hybrid version before I switched to my current Energi model. Having said that, it's probably obvious I like 'em!
My parents had a V10 Excursion that got 15MPG highway on a good day. Factor in the 42 gallon tank and that gets you over 600 miles of range. Miles per tank is a useless measurement of efficiency.
Well that was pointless reading, and comments over there seem to agree with that. Long range is only important in areas where gas stations are few and far between. It's why trucks have large tanks, and may have an even larger tank option. They might be put to use on a ranch, or in the forestry service where such may be the norm. It's nice for those will a commute on the long end of the spectrum, or taxis and other roles, but just for reducing the number of stops. It isn't a need in that case. For most people, the 400ish mile range of most cars is enough.
It is very big thing for motorcycles as many of them have ~120-150mi range. Not good; I had to plan crossing Nevada as there was 165mi distance btw stations. If you wanna take Delton highway, you have to bring your gas: the distance btw stations is 240mi. BUT this is motorcycles, most cars have at least 300mi range which is more than enough. You can still ran out of the gas as very few would stop if there is more than 1/2 tank left. Interestingly according to research one of the strong Prius sale points is long range. People do not wanna stop by gas station several times a week.
Needing to make serious time, I did El Paso to Kerrville Tx non-stop on I-10 in an F150. That's nearly 500 miles. I did it by skipping my morning coffee (BIG sacrifice!) and bringing breakfast, lunch, and two bottle waters with me. Comfy seat and 80mph speed limit helped a lot too.
