I have a 2010 with Navigation, I can handsfree call without much issue (though I do think that system is very poorly designed). Is there a way to install new firmware/software so that I can add a "Text" option? I'm trying to find a text "reader" application so that when I receive a text while Blue-toothed to my car it will auto-read it out loud, but since I refuse to pick up my phone with my hands while driving, I would need an option to text back. This is theoretically possible, but has anyone done it?
Why on earth would you want to text whilst driving? Surely it would be easier to join a major highway by entering an Exit-ramp? …just make sure it's very busy, and there are lots of 18-wheelers using it at the time! Good luck!
Well if you have an iPhone 4S or newer, you can use Siri to read the texts to you. Yes, you still have to touch the phone but really you just need to hold the HOME button until Siri is activated. The car treats Siri as a "phone call" so you can use the car's microphone to speak the commands to Siri on your phone. You can compose a text/reply in the same way.
I can do the same one my Android, but the car doesn't treat it as a "phone call", so I would need to connect the voice text button with the car call button. I don't know how to do that.
No, I'm not going to play World of Warcraft in my car... I can't start that addiction again. Sarcasm aside, I don't understand your comment. I receive a lot of texts, I would like to reply them without taking my hands off the wheel or looking away from the road. (I don't do this now, I wait until I arrive at my destination.) Often my texts are work related and clients get antsy when I don't respond right away, so being able to respond safely would be very convenient. in related news, I also helped make this video, weee:
Well, kudos to you! Nicely produced, but folk need to take it seriously! Here's a very old one (2009) which (apparently) went viral:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SC3x7K3EOTk
That is a serious video... yes it is humorous, but the message is serious. Teenagers respond better to Buzzfeed than "hard hitting" psa videos.
Indeed. I saw a person reading something on her phone. That person didn't have their headlights on and it was dusk. Legally (and it may vary from province/territory to province/territory), you must have your headlights on between 30 mins after sunset to 30 mins before sunrise. That works ok in the summer when twilight is long but in the winter, it gets dark well before the 30 min mark after sunset.
the amount of people I see looking down on the freeway is ridiculous! I watched a guy playing Candy Crush plow into the car in front of him, and now I'm super paranoid while looking in my review mirror!
