Sadly, I don't always trust my local dealer and take my cars to a trusted local shop. I called the dealer about a wind shield replacement last year and they quoted me $800.00 to $1300.00. Local guy did it for $200.00 and did a nice job, too. But, I had the inverter failure 2 days ago in my 2012 Prius- lots of lights lit up, a pull over warning, and then the car would not enter drive, only neutral. I looked online and found the recall so I had it towed to the dealer. They confirmed inverter failure and it is a covered repair. I hope to have my car back by tomorrow.
A $200 windshield replacement would be for an aftermarket windshield. The OEM windshield has some sound-proofing built in, hence the higher cost. You get what you pay for...
It took Toyota three weeks to get our inverter replaced. There were no parts available. Hop you have better luck. Keep us posted. Jim
Had you had the software update? Just curious if they continue to fail, even with the update. Still, the inverter could be stressed from day one, weakened before the update.
No, I did not have the software update. I was not aware of the recall. I did get the car back yesterday. The repair was $2600.00 but covered under the recall. The tow was covered under the (extended?) warranty.
