I recently purchased/installed new snow tires/rims without the TPMS as part of the tire package. I read that my TPMS light was going to go on and stay on since my new tires/rims are missing the sensors but the tpms light hasn't tuned on since the tire/rim swap. Do you guys think the sensor is broken and I should take the car in next spring to have the stealership look at it?
D Don't agonise over it. I did my summer/winter wheel swap recently (see threads passim) and for the first day or so the TPMS NagLight stayed off, eventually coming on after a day or so and remaining on. My summer wheels (with the TPMS sensors) are stored in my garage, and since here in the NE, the weather has been cooling off, and so I've been putting the car in the garage at night, and hey presto! When I get the car each morning the NagLight is off, but flashes and remains on after about ½ hour. If it annoys you, a small piece of black tape over the lamp is sufficient to cure the "annoying light" syndrome! I wouldn't worry too much about it! Good luck! - Wil
About how much distance have you driven since those tires were installed? How much was the longest segment? I have a habit (i.e. done it twice) of forgetting to re-program my Subaru after swapping wheel sets. The TPMS light comes on about 7 miles down I-5. After reprogramming, it goes off in about a mile. I don't yet know the corresponding figures for the Prius.
With our reg Prius, and snow tires sans TPMS, warning light's always on, mostly steady, occasionally flashing. We typically garage park, with regular tires within a foot of the right front fender.
6 miles, one trip ten minutes. Looks like my lack of patience may have gotten the better of me. Thanks for the insight gents.
Please don't thank me before the issue is actually resolved. We don't yet know that it is just a lack of patience, it might still be something else.
Lol, my thought process was if it wasn't working to begin with then maybe there was something wrong with the tpms "module" in the car. It's a relativity new vehicle and I have never actually seen the light turn on, now I know it works -Happy Holidays Everyone!
My experience is that if I keep my drives under 20 minutes, the light never turns on. When I go over 20 minutes, and the light comes on, I can park my car in the garage near where my regular tires with TPMS are stored, and the light will go off (might have to wait anywhere from 30-60 seconds) with the car on.
