I have a 2008 and Failed a state inspection do to the Parking light indicator. I didnt even know the car had one it had one. its always just beeped. how do i replace the bulb without taking it to the dealer?
just take it out and replace. go to oreilly or autozone, they'll probably do it for you if you buy the bulbs. $5
Just curious....so the parking brake light (emergency brake?) was burnt out on the dash and it failed a smog check???
I think it's pretty crazy to check your parking lights. The smog check should be emissions related items only.
I don't have my wiring diagram with me right now, but I think that indicator is part of the combination meter (CM) and would not be very easy to service. If you haven't pulled apart a Prius dash before, it takes a couple of hours just to get to the CM if you have the tools and some experience. (Second time is less than half that.) You have to remove the passenger side airbag, for instance. I think the excellent diagnostic tool, the Mini VCI, has a test function for the dash indicator lights. I would spend $25 for that, get an old computer to run it on, and see if in fact it is the indicator before tearing into the dash. Or pay the dealer to do it.
Unless the OP is referring to the PRND indicator in the dashboard, and is mistaking Park for parking brake?
Gang, any chance it could be this from page 146 of the owner's manual? I don't have a Gen 2, but in my Gen 1 it's only a couple minutes to get to those light bulbs ... pop the bezel off, undo four screws, unplug two connectors and lift the assembly out, bulbs change from the back. I know Gen 2 has the actual speedo under the dash shining up on a mirror, but I don't know if that's where the indicator bulbs on the sides are too, or if they are just where you see them. -Chap
