Prius on its way to East Coast?

Is that a series diesel-electric-propeller hybrid or do the diesels drive the props directly?

I did not realize Toyota shipped directly to the East Coast. Are any vehicles shipped to the West Coast and then sent via ground to the East Coast?

 

i don't think so. iirc, they stop at florida, and new jersey, and get trucked from there.

 

...Don't know...that's a clean machine..cleaner than what I was expecting, but excepting the big pistons on Steamboat Nachez in N'Awlins, I have never really seen an engine room. One wonders how many gallons of diesel it takes to get a Prius to us (perish the thought)

Thanks. So perhaps my Prius 3-ATP is on this same boat (the dealer mentioned a 4-Jan date, which may have been the departure from Japan). Anyone know the typical travel times to the East Coast for this vessel?

The previous posted link seemed to have stale data (from 22-Dec, the departure date from Japan). The current position (according to marinetraffic.com) is "out of range", although the Lat/Long indicates West Coast Central America.

 

Nope. I am curious to compare purchase dates with the mfg-date sticker in the door.
My 2006 is July_06 mfg I bought in Sept_06

 

i think it's 4-5 weeks door to door, but i'll have to go back to the pip records, we all had ours pre ordered from japan.

an acquaintance bought a bmw a few years back, and after owning it for one year, blew a tyre. the closest replacement was in cali, and $1,200. plus shipping. car was sidelined for 10 days.

 

I've done like 12 drive bys at 3 dealers... When they see me, they will probably add $1000 to my MSRP... All 3 Midwest dealers told me they were scheduled to arrive on the 11th...

 

maybe other ships have already docked. i don't know where their cars come in.

 

I guess all those people that were getting their cars in December are still out, driving around...

 

Apparently there are a lot of ships used to carry Toyota vehicles to the US (and elsewhere) see the thread below.

Based on the data in the (Car Carrier Ship tracking) thread below it looks like it takes on the order of 5 days to reach Jacksonville FL from the Panama Canal and 2-3 days to reach NJ from Jacksonville. The Cetus Leader is scheduled to reach Panama on 13-January (departed Japan 22-Dec) according to Ships Map - Vessel Tracking & AIS Positions Map | AIS Marine Traffic.

I just checked with my NJ dealer and my vehicle (Prius 3-ATP) arrived (port of Newark) on Monday. Now I am awaiting the delivery to the dealer from the port. Hopefully sometime next week.
