Promoting open inquiry, but not too open. Not open enough to realize that 1998 is the only starting year in this record that indicates no significant warming. Any other starting year shows warming. 1998, as the biggest bump in the time series, will continue to reward motivated misunderstanding for years to come. If not decades. Big bumps can cause you to miss underlying patterns. In UAH TLT 1998 anomaly was +0.48 oC and 2015 +0.27. It will be a loooong time before you stop hearing about 1998. The other winner we have here is vaccination (that's what I call it). Say somebody else is dogmatic. Say it first and loudly. Then, when the obviously dogmatic approach of starting in 1998 and at no other time won't look like dogma. May not look so bad. As vaccine it is much less than 100% effective, but if there is nothing else on the shelf...
