From Green Car Congress Looks like the battery pack will take away space from the trunk and possibly the rear seat area. 3 planetary gear sets, 5 clutches, and multiple cooling radiators will make it more complex than the Volt drivetrain. Green Car Congress: GM’s new RWD PHEV system for Cadillac CT6 designed for fun-to-drive high performance as well as efficiency; Volt on steroids
The last one was a prettied up Volt with minor performance improvements. This one should be a better 'value' in terms of performance and being a bigger car. The value remains to be seen. The ICE model has a base MSRP of $53.5k to $67.6k. This is Cadillac's new flagship. Cadillac | CT6 Sedan
Why so few clutches & gear sets . . . . . . after all if more is better. Oh wait I forgot - 50% or more of auto profits come from the service garage. .
How often does an automatic transmission clutch pack have to be replaced? Fluid changes might be more often, but the 50k or 100k mile interval most have now is better than the 30k mile one on our 2001 Sable. Then the dealership likely charges the same whether it is a step automatic transmission or an HSD transaxle.
The dealer cannot charge the same. HSD transaxle oil lastes for much longer, and it is only drain/refill. Step automatic transmissions, with solenoid valves, carry a lot more oil, filters and work to be done when flushed, and must be performed properly.
5 clutches are probably better than 0 ;-) Really I think they could have done with 4 clutches and more gears I doubt it will need that much service. Most of the time it will simply be clutched to be in bev mode with that big battery. It sounds like a lot less wear and tear than the 4 speed + cvt Lexus version of 2 mode 8 things you should know about the Lexus LC 500h powertrain I don't think this will do well compared to the lower cost bmw phev the 330e. The 330e only has about 17 electric miles, but it is based on a better platform. This caddi will likely fall between the Lexus model S 90d and the bmw 330e. I think people if they aren't caddi devotes will pick the beemer or the tesla. 0-100 km in the caddi is 5.6, the beemer 6.1 the tesla well the p model will do it in around 3 seconds, without the p its still much faster than the Cadillac. BMW raided the volt team for tallent. The 330e takes some strange design choices but reduces hp on its 2L turbo for efficiency in charge deplete mode, getting only 250 hp from the combination. The cadillac will be a much better bev, but ... if that's what you want it won't come clsoe to the model S. The bmw uses a double clutch transmision then a clutch between the motor and engine making it 3 clutches (2 used to switch gears in bev mode, a thrid for hybrid mode changes.
Perhaps in Europe, but in America all the dealers are independent(except for Tesla). So they'll charge what they think they can get away with. My Toyota dealer wanted $80 just to inspect the belts and other rubber parts.
Some even refuse to do the "lifetime fluid", so with a HSD we just can keep running for several hundreds of Thousand miles. The other trannies, not quite...
There is some automatics with lifetime fills. It is just lifetime to all car companies is just 150k miles or so.
