Paint damage

I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly where that is?

 

Again it's hard to say, it all depends on what your willing to try and what your end game is. Is there any damage to the metal? I looks like the clear coat of the paint cracked but left the color, you could sand it down and get some color match paint but thats a huge area, have you gotten any quotes from body shops?

 

All depends on your endgame, I'm replacing the bumper cover on my Prius, and opting not to have it painted, my body shop guy said I'm saving at least $100 not painting it. So I would think if you call around you might be able to have someone professionally repair just that section. Again what is you end game...keep it from spreading? (If it is..), or look like new, or somewhere in between

 

Hit the whole roof (extra elbow grease to affected area) with some high quality liquid rubbing compound followed by liquid rubbing polish and see how it looks then and decide...

 

Definitely a body shop if you want it to look nice, the only thing that makes it hard or maybe easy is that it's not on a piece of the car that can be removed, but I see no reason the couldnt repaint and blend that part of the roof. I would expect to pay about 200. And if it's a crack it can spread

 

Did you strap something to the roof without a roof rack to cause that rubbing type scuffs? That's what it looks like to me?

 

If your end game is to have it look like new?
I don't think there is anything you can do to reach that end.
It would take a body shop and probably big money.

Since it's on your roof, and you have a black colored vehicle, my first move would be to try some over the counter polishes and waxes and see how good I could get it to look. If I could live with it? I'd just live with it.

Kind of hard to tell from the picture, but that looks like pretty extensive damage to the finish. I'm thinking a "as good as new" fix might be pretty expensive.

Meguiars use to sell a "black wax". ( I use to own a black vehicle). I might give that a try. Use to be able to pick it up at any major outlet.

 

Like I said earlier (I've saved quite a few paint jobs on different motorcycles and blended in some marred paint and scuffs / scratches on different cars) try rubbing compound followed by rubbing polish... You might be pleasantly surprised. Not seeing a bigger picture of the entire roof it's hard to tell the extend and depth of the scuffs but above is your cheapest and easiest way to possibly make it look a lot better. If not a trip to the body shop ($$) is most likely required if you want it to look anywhere near perfect and not just a lot better..

Liquid Glass is another product that works wonders on dark colored cars once they are polished up real nice. Apply a few coats and your car will literally look like liquid glass and repel dust and grime and protect your paint. I used to use it on my black mazdaspeed3 and it is simply amazing stuff.

Well, my eyes are going fast. OR you need a better camera. Or probably the truth...a little of both.

I'd still try some of the standard available wax, polish and finish restore options, just to see if you could get it to where you might be happy.
Or maybe swing by a established detailer and ask for an opinion. Some of those guys could probably tell you in an instant what is possible.

It's the roof, so on a darker car, especially if you aren't parking in a garage, it's NOT going to stay pristine very long anyway.

I'm just afraid to get it repaired to "as new" it would be a pretty big investment.

It's just a matter of balancing your expectations, desire, and what you are willing to invest.
