Hey all, Im considering getting a used Toyota Prius (see my other post), but I was wondering if the Prius has a timing chain or a timing belt? I ask, as the timing belt can be pricey
chain, no worries. there is a serpentine belt on the ten 2 that needs replacing around 100k, but it's cheap and easy.
Gen 2 = timing chain. They threw in extra information, serpentine belt outside drives the water pump.
This is true tbf. I have seen people who do repair individual cells in em tbf, and one would hope I dont have to get an AC compressor! Looking at the AC compressor, you can buy em used for £100 and brand new for £500 - genuine ones on eBAy, or even made by Denso. That's not so bad really? I mean it is mega expensive, but not $2500 bad! - in the UK, sure we have the exchange rate difference, but after taxes, goods in the UK cost about the same as the initial $ price ie: Something that costs $100 in the US will probably cost some £85-£100 after taxes any way, despite it being around £65 or whatever it is, on the exchange rate.
Looking on eBay, a used one is £60 and a new one made by a company called "HERTH+BUSS" is around £125. Not sure how good a brand they are. I guess a good brand will probably cost up to maybe £200? Hmm on AMazon, it appears that costs some £80 for that part brand new.
Yeah I guess. I guess also, the UK has a very good used car market (for consumers that is) - not necessarily for businesses I guess that's the advantage of being such a small country, yet being quite densely populated at the same time!
