It was the green one in my avatar, gone now. Wife Elsie [ member here ] owns an insurance business on a busy street in Meridian, Ms and it was parked in front of her office. A 19 yo young lady had a seizure of some type and plowed into the Prius at speed, apparently she had the ''pedal to the metal'' when she hit the car. She struck just behind the rear door, turning the Prius 360*, and it ended 3 parking spots over, The striking vehicle kept going, crossing a side street, and hit a brick Church--- destroying the corner of it--- that stopped her. Not sure of her injuries, the ambulance had left by the time I got there. At least I won't get any hassle from my ins agent.... It completely tore the whole back to pieces [ literally ] knocked both back wheels off, bent door frames and roof, busted hybrid battery. We are undecided about our course of action now, whether to get a 2016, or what. She loves the ''v''s and the new model ''v'' is not out yet. I found a 2014 ''v'' with 14K miles on it for $20,500, and my insurance payout will buy that. [ paid cash for the green Prius ]
Elsie was not in the car, sitting at her desk, she was just leaving to go to a funeral when she got a phone call,,, stopping her from leaving..........[ Thank you, Lord ] We will have to meditate on whether to get another car as she is now driving my Lincoln MKZ and I have a nice 2007 Z-71 I will drive. Elsie will retire at the end of the year, so it is not pressing. However--- a new car is still a tax write-off for her now.
Darn or Whoo Hoo! ? Assuming nobody was hurt, of course...sounds like you fell into a really neat way of getting a brand new vehicle upgrade. I'd really look at it as an opportunity. Most of the time, in similar situation we are talking personal injury here, this is basically you're going to get a big check which should allow you to make a good move. As long as the Insurance Company is fair, and doesn't try to rip you off too badly...sounds like fun to me.
Insurance settlements can range from equivalent new car, to current value, depending on the policy. (Sounds like Lester's is pretty good tho.)
Sounds like a no lose situation. Either a "new" vehicle...money in the bank, or a really nice retirement send off vacation.
Still not sure of driver's condition, they all are worried more about the church than anything. Turns out it is a ''historic'' civil rights church.....They did a TV story on yesterday's afternoon newscast. I think we will pass on the 2014 v as the re-designed '15--'16 models have lots better crash ratings. We still are undecided about whether to buy anything or not, but, they make them everyday so there is not any rush.
I was just going to post that idea for you about the small overlap crash test design changes...I would do the same
We got the ins settlement---$18,600, and have decided to wait on the Gen 4 ''v'' before buying another car. She came home yesterday and said, ''I am starting to like the Lincoln''. --- ''Yeah, I got by with it'',,,, She has only driven a Prius since 2005, after driving the Tahoes and Grand Cherokees, and is spoiled rotten on gas mileage. The MKZ is not TOO bad--- 24 mpg in town, 29-30 on the interstate, but VERY quiet and comfortable. [ reason I originally got it ] It breaks both of our hearts losing the little car, but, that's life....
