Source: Ferrari CEO Takes a Tesla for a Test Drive Electric cars are known for ferocious acceleration, and so are Ferraris. Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne took a Tesla for a spin, and acceleration aside, he found it wanting. Indeed, he called it “obscene.”… Context matters, of course. According to a CNN report, Marchionne called the experience – presumably in a Model S – “obscene” because there was no engine noise. Bob Wilson
I enjoyed driving a Ferrari around a track but for every day driving, you want a car that is calming as the world is already chaotic as it is with deadlines to meet, rush hour traffic, crazy cyclists and crowded lunch spots. An EV allows you to enjoy the thrills of a sports car with the silence of a luxury car.
Ferrari now reminds many of the stodgy old timers who couldn't see that automobiles could & would replace horses. Ferrari is totally getting there ar$ handed to them in Formula One by the Mercedes hybrid team. Ergo, guess what these poor Johnny come lately people are finally getting around to creating; Home | Live Scores & Latest News | Fox Sports " hey Ferrari, welcome to the 21st century. How's the view, from way back there...." One would think the only thing that Ferrari finds obscene - is there mouthy-ness to loser status ratio. .
and maybe their bottom line. i probably see ten tesla's for every ferrari around here. but that may just be the popularity of tesla, and not the fading of ferrari,i have no idea. funny tangent, i was at the local whole foods this morning, and there's a single charger with a parking spot on either side. on one side is a tesla, and on the other side is a passat. my wife says, 'that's funny, you have to open the hood on the vw to charge it'. so while she's inside, i walk over to look at the passat. did someone do an aftermarket ev to this thing? then two kids come out and lift the hood, and the charge cable is just laying there. uh-oh, bad timing, the tesla owner gets out of her car and starts reaming them a new one. it was a great show.
Obscene because there is no engine noise? Does he think his LCD TV is obscene because it does not have a bulky rear? Does he think his telephone is obscene because it has no spinning dial? Does he think his smartphone is obscene because it has no buttons? And I wonder: what is more obscene, a car without engine noise or a car that has to enhance its engine noise through the internal speakers (BMW...). Marchionne is clearly a very old-fashioned man.
LCD screens are obscene because of their generally poor motion, uniformity, black levels, and viewing angles. Thank goodness for OLED taking the mantle from plasma.
