I just got my car totalled and I wanted to remove and put my brand new gen2 prius tires on my gen3. The gen2 prius tires are 185/65, stock gen3 prius are 196/65. Would there be anything wrong besides odometer/speed being +5% ?
Being smaller, they will be rated to carry less load. 195s are rated to carry 1259 pounds, while 185s only carry 1104 pounds so 620 fewer pounds for 4. Since the Prius is rated to carry 810 pounds of passengers and cargo, 185s could safely carry 190 pounds. If you drive solo all the time, it looks safe. maybe.
I wouldn't, you're changing the "gearing". If a car is totalled, haven't you lost possession of the car, ie: you can't start pulling essential parts off it? Or were you planning to sub some well worn tires? Either way, it'll impact mpg on your gen 3 I think. Reduces ground clearance a bit too.
worn 195 are probably matching/smaller than full tread on 185. load rating is only 20kg/tire. Should be fine. Obviously the mpg will be overstimated, as well as odo/speed.
