Hi My I got 2016 PRIUS back in February and is now close to hitting 20,000 miles...I have been bringing it to the dealer for maintenance until I hit 25,000 miles when the Toyota care expires then I will just do maintenance myself... When is the fan for the traction battery due for regular cleaning and filter change?
Here in the UK, it's not actually on any of the service schedules, but I'll probably check it myself at 20k miles. If it's still clean then I'll check it again at 40k.
no need to bother unless you carry furry shedding animals regularly. other than that, no one has ever found anything that would inhibit cooling.
Now I'm curious how you access it...I took the bottom seat off and I cant seem to access it...And that plastic screw on the actual vent cover isn't it either...The manual states call the dealer if it needs replacement...but its just a filter if anything...it cant be that hard to replace
If you get down to it please post some pictures. It's not on the Toyota schedule. For peace of mind I would check it at least once, just to satisfy yourself what is or isn't going on with it, say around the aforementioned 20,000 miles. It shouldn't be terrifically difficult. Keep in mind you likely only have to get to it, not pull it completely out, to clean it.
These are the kind of things that Auto Manufactures do that bug the heck out of me. Why not just put a simple, easily accessible filter just inside the vent cover!!!? Something that we owners can change (like the cabin filter behind the glove box--easy).
I took mine apart after four years and it was unnecessary. Those fans don't get clogged unless there's a lot of hair getting sucked in, namely pet hair.
