I recently got a 2005 prius with 97k on it back in may. After two weeks the red triangle, check engine light, brake light, and the red car with an exclamation point came on. I drove the car to school and back and after a few days the lights went away. Then the following month all the lights came back, along with the problem showing up on MID. I drove the car home but after a while the battery seemed to stop powering the car and it was just running on the gas motor but the felt like the car was running like when the battery is really low. I read a whole bunch of forums here and figured it was the HV battery. I took it to auto zone and yep it was indeed the HV battery. I found a guy that rebuilds your HV battery for $699 and gives a one year warranty. ONLY 3 weeks later and the lights come back on! I called the guy and he said he would come by tomorrow and check the battery out. I am unsure if i can now trust the guy. I just really want my car to work fine with me just getting the car and paying for the fix of course i don't want to spend more money especially with me starting college. I've heard so many great things about prius' but with my experience I think I will be going with gas powered cars only. Should i just sell the car and get a new one? Any help and any suggestions??
Your biggest mistake is "I found a guy". This will probably happen over and over again, hopefully he's good for his warranty. A more reliable repair would be to buy a new battery.
welcome! as long as the guy will cover it for free, you might as well play along. when he's no longer free, i would move on to a gasser. but honestly, 11 year old cars are not going to be trouble free for long. all the best!
He has a shop in a near by town and will go to your house to to rebuild or refurbish the battery. The rebuild was cheaper so that's the I way I went. He says he stays true to his warranty. I just hope he can fix and have no problems for a while!
who did you use? If you want a reliable repair, you would need to get a new battery. That way your car may be reliable until your college days are over.

Doubtful 11 year old gas powered cars will be trouble free. Consider this: you buy a used iPhone and the battery dies. You pay a guy on the Internet to fix the battery. 3 weeks later, the battery dies again. Is the problem because it's an iPhone and you need to get an Android or is it the choice to repair it outside an Apple Store? Good luck on your warranty.

Well when you put it that way, it seems yeah I didn't go the right way about it. With all the treads I've read with people having rebuilt the battery and the car working great again I was hoping that would be my case but I guess not. Oh and if I get a gas car I would go for a less older car haha
FYI, I also have a 2005. If the battery ever goes out on me, I would do the same as you. Except, the Internet guy I am having do the job will be myself. So I don't think you necessarily made the wrong choice. I think you made the choice within your budget. You just have to adjust your expectations
