Yep, I was charging my phone with a USB cable and the play back message feature actually works with the cable hooked up. No joy with BT so far on actual playback or read over BT. I am sure it is operator error.
Have an adroid and the built in voice commands work just fine for dialing or getting nav destinations for me.
Took me 4 months to figure out the one message I got was through the USB cable and only the USB cable. Will most likely leave it plugged up since that part will be hands free.
What version of iOS on the iPhone 5s are you running? FWIW message playback works for me via BT and my iPhone 5s running iOS 9.3.3... I am upgrading to iOS 9.3.4 as I post this...
Current version this week. BTW it will pop up that I have a message but the playback feature on the Prius screen is disabled. Only on the USB cable does it work. SIRI, I am sure works but I should not use that while driving/Maybe. The voice button feature on the steering wheel in the Prius does not allow messages to be read. You bet your life was a great show.
Neither did my Galaxy S5... but I did find a place to by the OE back cover that added a Qi pickup coil. Use it all the time both in the car and at home and office. Only use the cable charger when I have to now. All phones from now on must have cordless charging or I won't consider them. The feature is just too nice/convenient.
Update, yesterday I was driving and got a message on the Prius screen and it played it back without a USB connection. Also it was on the phone that was not linked to the Prius but somehow linked itself. I was not using SIRI. I do not PU my phone and do stuff while driving folks. The Prius screen is as far as I will go and my wife even yells at me when I do that. My son figured that out the hard way.
My current cell phone is not an iPhone and is needing replaced. I want to get a phone that works with my Prius. Would a Apple iPhone 5S 16GB 4G LTE work well? I've never owned an iPhone.
The car voice reconnection seamed unusable. Maybe it could do radio station numbers, but I couldn't get it to find phone book names very well. I use Siri for everything I can.
I would compare prices on the Samsung and others and get your best deal. I was forced to get two 5S's because some of the family are Apple freaks and wanted to video call us and not use Skype. Have 3 Windows 10 phones I bought on clearance for $9-$29 and they work fine. My ready reserve when the 5S croaks. Folks here have said the Android phones work better on the Prius. Samsung makes quality products as well as Microsoft but they will cost you for the higher end units. Good news is the 5S is a solid phone but I paid way too much for it (cheaper now and be sure to get a new one and not a refurb). Also Apple products will not take a micro memory chip like other phones and the battery cannot be replaced by the user like other phones.. So the 16GB is all you get forever. That may be enough for casual non business use. Bottom line is I am not an Apple freak but they do make quality products.
