I had to park my car in the hot sun on vacation the last two days and when I first crank it up with the AC on I get a familiar burnt wire smell but a little different. Like the difference between burnt pork and Burnt beef. It goes away after about 3 minutes. Anyone else have this issue?
Typical new car, cooking and outgassing. It's all the sealants, etc. It will get better in a few years.
When I test drove or looked at maybe 2 dozen cars, some had distinctly more "new car smell". Worst were a KIA and a Peugeot, mid-range were VW, FordFocus, Corolla and Mazda, Prius was one of the better ones. Best were LEXUS and VOLVO. But then, it could be subjective - depending on how much they'd been locked up, parked in the sun etc. It reminds me of testdriving 2 opposing brand cars back in 1980 when I lived in the tropics - one (FORD) had their (white) demonstrator parked in the shade with the windows ajar, and the car had A/C, the other (GM) had their (red) demonstrator parked in the sun with the windows closed and no A/C. Guess which car impressed? [We bought the NISSAN, though, but that's another story.]
