I own seven Prius taxi cabs and the battery in the 2010's did not hold up well because they changed the way the venting was in the battery was getting too hot and would have to replace at 300,000 km whereas the second-generation cars would still have an original battery at 700,000 km Does anyone know if they fixed that problem I am looking at a good price on a 2012 Prius Also the transaxle on the 2010 Prius did not hold up as well as the second generation Prius under the tough pounding the taxis take .
i have not heard of either of those being changed. but toyota is only concerned with getting past the 10/150 warranty.
I believe that 2010-2015 didn't change other than different lights, and slight styling. I had a 2012 and my best friend had a 2011, my 2012 looked much nicer but other than the nicer interior, rear lights, and front bumper, it was the same. God I love the 2nd generation. So damn tough!
I talked to a mechanic at Toyota last night and he said they had corrected the cooling /venting of the battery that they royally messed up in 2010 when I asked him about the 2012 and he was fairly sure they did something about the transaxle -- The second generation were bullet proof and I was shocked when my first 2010 had the battery and transaxle issues very disappointed but love the Prius as a taxi so much I will see how the 2012 works out
Gen3 (2010-2015) transaxles lack the weak magnetic drain plug that were standard on Gen2(2004-2009). You can always upgrade to a magnetic drain plug for the transaxle. Hopefully you are doing regular drain/fills on the transaxle.
The 7" nav headunit changed from a 4-CD changer with the maps on a DVD, no HD Radio and no DVD playback, to a 1 CD/DVD player with the maps on a hard drive, HD Radio, and improved USB music navigation (can list by your Artist and Album id3 tags finally), plus a second FM antenna added on the right quarter window for better FM reception. Also the power button turned blue, the temperature button sprouted red and blue triangles, and the A/C and pollen-suck buttons swapped places. Who could overlook that? -Chap
Read post #473. It also contains a link to Bob Wilson & Professor Denenberg, used transaxle oil oil analysis. ATF fluid changes ARE Required. | Page 24 | PriusChat Read this too: Prius 30k Service
The trouble with this: you're working with vague conjecture from this guy. My pure guess: there's no change to battery vent method or transaxle, 2010 through 2015.
agreed. if there was, i would like to see specs, link, pics or something. isn't the gen 3 similar/same as gen 2?
There are some differences, I have a vague awareness: 2nd gen fan is up on the hatch wall, while 3rd gen fan is right next to battery. I believe also second gen air exhausts through some sort of snorkel, whereas third gen air just dumps into spare tire region, finds its way over to exit flaps under the bumper fairing. This is on reg 3rd gen, plugin is different again.
