! Red triangle brake lights.

    Just replaced hybrid battery pack(Dorman) on 2005 prius. First 2 days everything was great.
    Then red triangle/ brake lights came on. Parked car then wouldn't start.Then I changed 12v battery it was 7 years old. Replaced with Optima date code on new battery is 10/16. Car started up no lights. Again everything was great then red triangle/ brake lights came on. Parked car now it won't start. Rechecked all connections. Any ideas? Thanks!

    You need to read the codes. It's very expensive replacing parts that don't require replacement

    Need the codes to help pinpoint the problem.
    In the meantime though. . .
    1) Did you clean the hybrid battery fan?

    I did. It seems like the 12v isn't being charged and when it discharges to a certain level that's when the problems start. I checked all connections.

    If it is the hybrid battery, you will need the code(s) in order to activate the warranty .
    How soon can you get the codes read?

    202,000. but a keeper. bought it used, garaged kept, well maintained. Looks like new, but it'd be great to fix it.
    bought it for 1500.00 running.

    Dorman which got mixed reviews. It has a 3 yr warranty but I have heard some horror stories.
    Local Toyota wanted 3300.00 and 3 yr. warranty.

    You'll be fine with Dorman .
    You saved money buying the car.
    Now you must take some of those savings and invest in the correct tools to work on your car.
    Without diagnostic software you'll just be guessing at the source of problems .

    You could get. . .
    - Torque app
    - Bluetooth OBDII reader that works with Torque app.
    -Techstream Software and diagnostic cable.

    Your current problem might be as simple as not having the orange safety lock fully seated. Or it could be as bad as a high voltage leak. With diagnostic software you'd know definitively.

    Got code reader. Code reads POAOD. possible HV ecu failed, EV battery plug failed or HV ecu failed. Clueless. Could anyone point me in the direction. Thanks!

    I did. I noticed there's a fuse inside. The car starts the the engine comes on and dies. I was getting the ready light but no anymore. Red triangle stays on along with other lights. Thanks!

    Assuming you have access to the HV battery, unplug the HV ECU and inspect the plug and socket for electrical damage.

    Ok checked that. What is "EV battery plug has failed"? Is that the plug for 12v battery?
    Orange plug in HV Battery is ok and put in properly. Thanks

    As I can't find a post with that exact quote I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you're replying to my post. Neither of those two.

    I didn't say "EV battery plug has failed", I said:

    2005 Prius red triangle, orange brake lights while driving. Turned car off when I got home won't restart. Used BlueDriver code reader. First code: P3004 Power Cable malfunction. Reported fixes: Replace fuses, Recharge HV battery. (Battery seemed to be charging fine). 2 Antilock brake codes C1953 and P1000. both codes stated "no code definition available" thank you for any help.

    Head on over to techinfo.toyota.com to look those codes up in the proper manual for your model and year. As you've seen (and can see in the earlier story in this thread), you can't rely on the definitions in your code reader to be available, let alone accurate for your model and year, and even when they are, they aren't the information you actually need, which is the pages of further troubleshooting info that you find in the manual when you look up those codes.
