MPG Calibration

None that we know of. The error is quite common in most cars equipped with the technology and the error often appears larger with larger mpg numbers.

 

Speedometers are optimistic from the factory too. Most speedometers are 1-2mph too fast. I'm not really sure why the mpg indicator is unless it is just a gimmick. The GenII was approx 2% optimistic and the GenIII 2010-2011 is between 4%-7% depending on whose records you review. We don't have enough data for the 2012 or Prius v to determine the error percentage yet.

 

I currently own a 2013 outback, and the same issue exists, HOWEVER there is a fix for the OB. They claim it takes a dealer to recalabrate, but it should be able to be done with out. All it is a setting than you need to jump through hoops through. I would think the same can be done with a Toyota.

 

Who exactly is this "they" ??

And I would think NOT......since this is the first that I've heard about being able to do it on ANY model.
I follow Ford hybrids and the Volt fairly closely.....in addition to the Prii.

 

Get a ScanGuage, available through the PriusChat store. You can accurately calibrate that and see your instantaneous and daily mpg.

You didn't provide any specific information, just a claim based on some "they" that said it could be done.

As one with decades of computer experience, I assure you you are theoretically right. You could access the code and change both the logic and comparison values.

But your post failed to provide any how, where, price, or success story that matches the specific vehicles in this forum so until you do, your post is, while theoretically possible, less helpful than it might be.

Doing so would void any warranty.

I track my MPG using fuelly. I never look at the MPG displayed as an absolute. I rather look on one reading as relative to another within a margin of error. So personally, even if the fix/mod required 10 minutes and no cash I wouldn't bother.

They refers to members at the Outback forum. I thought it was pretty obvious.
