Brought home my new 2011 Prius. When turned car off there was a flashing red light in instrument cluster. To right of clock? Can't make out symbol could be security indicator light or cruise control indicator light. Called salesman & he said it was a security light & it would go off shortly. Got home from work & light is still flickering on 8 hours later. When I start car it goes off and comes back on when shut off car get out & lock door. I'm concerned that if it stays on all night it will drain battery. I did not see this flashing red light during any of my several trst drives It hasn't been on before. Any ideas how to turn it off? Or is it supposed to b on all night? Thank you for your help & happy new year!
My 2012 has it, though I have never checked how long it stays on. I'm no electrical engineer but I would bet that even the Prius 12V could power that one little blinking LED for decades. The smart key system alone probably takes tens or hundreds of times more power than that...I wouldn't worry about it.
It's normal, it's the immobilizer indicator, a security system that prevents people from stealing your car. It's a flashing lock?
Hi I can't tell if it's the flashing security or cruise control indicator symbol. It's about 5 degrees out & too cold to keep checking it. If it is security indicator why did salesman tell me it would go off shortly? From the comments here it won't drain my battery overnight if it stays on. I'll worry about it tomorrow. Didn't want to ring in new year wi dead battery. Thanks you guys for putting my.mind at ease. Perhaps I'll have more time to read the hi tech owners Manuel tomorrow and figure out what it is.
Hi Thanks for your comment. I'd like to learn more about consequences of leaving indicator lights on. But it's late & freezing cold out. It sounds like I can deal with this problem in morning without worrying about dead battery. Thank u for your assistance & Happy New Year!

the light never goes off when the car is parked , it shows the alarm is set so if anyone sees it they will not try to break into the car..
No, it was because it was a salesman that does not understand Prius or modern automotive theft protection. IOW, they do not have the basic knowledge or qualifications to honestly do their job.
No. There are an admittedly few good honest salesmen who know their products. Dianne Whitmire, for instance.
