Hello, has anybody imported a US from Canada for personal use. I am somewhat confused with what should I do - and I decided to ask here first before calling the 1800 number and being on hold forever

The website should provide all the information you need. Always ensure you have the documents in order. If you're unsure, just call the border that you'll be crossing and run through the documents with them over the phone.
I'm guessing he is expecting to move from Toronto to California. But since posting, he hasn't returned to PC to read and clarify. A quick search found that 'it depends'. Some models are good to go, some need minor modifications, others will be more problematic.
