I am driving 2010 gen3. I have erased hybrid error codes three times in the last eight months. Is it okay to keep erasing errors whenever it happens? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
What are the codes? It is quite likely that just resetting the codes lets you drive a little longer but will result in a much costlier repair.
welcome! it doesn't hurt, but the problem is not going to go away. you need to have the codes read and fix it.
Dealer recommends replacing whole hybrid battery pack, plus they don't try replacing some bad cells. Whole replacement is too expensive in Korea. Besides there's no private mechanics featuring hybrid battery. Even I can't find any used one. That's why I am thinking of driving continuosly with warning erased whenever lights are turned on. what would you do if you were in my shoes? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
He said some cells have low boltage. He didn't tell what error code is. I have ordered obd2 to use at emergency. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
if you have no other options, keep resetting the code. but it will probably die eventually and you'll be stuck somewhere.
This will also work for 2010, just specify year when ordering. Hybrid Battery Preventative Maintenance Grid Charger for 2004-2009 Toyota Prius - PriusChat Shop
If you don't reset codes what is the problem? I'm thinking the "check hybrid system" warning obscures the speedometer? Is that the case? If it's not obscuring any vital information I would see no reason to reset codes. If you do get an opportunity to change battery, those codes will be important. How much? Have you got a quote from Toyota dealership? Also, how many kilometers (or miles?) are on the odometer? Are you out of warranty for sure? In Canada, for comparison, warranty on the hybrid battery is 8 years or 160,000 km's, whichever comes first. General US warranty is similar I think, and the state of California even more.
here depending on the year, warranty is different. my used car warranty is 2year, 100,000km. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I haven't heard this kind of charger before. If scanned result shows such codes as product description, I will take into account grid charger. Thanks~^^ Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Have you checked from dealer how long is hybrid battery warranty? Thst is not same as car warranty. I havent heard that there is countries where is no hybrid battery warranty on toyota.. But course if its 8y then it might be gone already:/
Do NOT order it from the PriusChat shop though. People are currently having issues getting their items. You can purchase directly from the manufacturer, Hybrid Automotive. @jeff652 is a valued member here. Here is the charger & harness for the 2010 Prius. ProlongĀ® Battery Charger – Hybrid Automotive It is highly recommended that you get the Deluxe Reconditioning system which includes an intelligent discharger. ProlongĀ® Deluxe Reconditioning Package – Hybrid Automotive There is also a lower cost reconditioning system which takes more monitoring & work for discharging.
Poor, incomplete advice. When the trouble light is on, the proper diagnostic software will identify the block triggering the code. It will also show the loaded & unloaded voltages of the blocks to aid in identifying other weak modules. Just replacing modules is not sufficient. They should ideally be from the same generation battery pack are closely matched to the voltages of the remaining modules. The pack should then be rebalanced & reconditioned. That is what we have been advising in this thread. A better solution is to either replace with a new Toyota battery or, if in the US & DIY, the $1600 kit of new cells sold by user @2k1Toaster here.
