My best friend was going to buy a new Taurus. However, before he did he came to my home to see my Prius. He liked my car, but as a "Ford man", he wanted more. He called the local dealer and drove a Taurus to an empty parking lot where we both discovered that the Taurus was not equal to the Prius. No animals were harmed in this post.
The Taurus did not have the quality, technology, comfort level. The Taurus was better looking and quicker
I have one each: a Prius C and a Fusion Hybrid. I like both just fine.......but for different purposes and reasons. When I was shopping, I didn't like the Taurus at all.......but I don't remember exactly why.
I believe he bought a Prius for the size. He is in marketing and frequently has four men going back and forth to Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Ford did not come close in size or economy, I think it was a C Max or something close. The more I learn about my car the more I feel good to evangelize.
You got me taking a look at Taurus. The exterior looks cool in a cop car kind of way. The interior looks a but too cushy/plush, kinda put me in mind of the rental Grand Marquise boat we steamed around in, on Oahu. There is something familar/reminiscent in Fords though. Our son-in-law was working for Ford up until recently, he got opportunity to drive every car in their gamut, interesting line up.
For those that don't follow the car industry closely, the Taurus isn't the same Taurus as the ones from the 80s to early 2000s. The Fusion replaced that (and Contour) for the 2006MY. The current Taurus used to be called the Five Hundred (2005-2007).
The Corolla is not the same as the Corolla made 50 years ago either. I still remember my 1969. When idling, the corners of the front bumper moved vertically.
